I'm hating this chip tray more and more. Instead of selling the table and buying a new one, I'm going to try and make an insert exactly like the table. Has anyone done this before? If so, what kind of foam and MDF did you use and what dimensions?

First glance, l would probably recover the whole table after filling in the tray area. I know for me that a plugged tray would be just about as bad as a tray. It would drive me nuts. If it were me I'd strip the cloth, plug and the tray spot by measuring and cutting a nearly identical same thickness piece of wood/mdf, use either metal strapping or straps of wood to glue/screw for under support, then recover.

But, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

PS, I do not condone the skinning of any domesticated animal.

I’m probably going to end up selling it and just get a new one. I’m too afraid I’d ruin it

Did several casino tables and just filled the tray cut-out with MDF and re-clothed the whole table. Casino tables are easy enough because the bumper just unbolts and the re-cloth is straight forward. But 'cheaper' tables often require complicated removal of the bumper to get to the felt edges. If your bumper is easily removed then its straight forward enough.
