I know chip colors are very personal, and I guess depending on whether it is your first set or you have multiple sets, you may decide to use 'safe' and 'standard' colors vs. experimental and fun/interesting colors. I have MAJOR issues with color schemes used by not only casinos, but also custom-made chip sets and generic off the shelf chips. For example, far too often, the $100 and $500 chips are close in color (black and purple), or $100 and $5000 chips (black and chocolate). Some are even worse, but I just can't recall right now.

I am primarily concerned about a cash game set with higher denominations, but I think the concept should and could be somewhat universal. The color palette is extremely rich and a great combination can be found to make it so that some of the chips use the 'standard' colors, yet they are not similar to other chips.

Starting with the very standard chips, I think $5 Red, $25 Green and $100 Black should be used in most sets. The more typical red $1K chips are great, but so is the Wynn yellow $1K, for example.

Given those 3 colors, what are some of the BEST color combinations you have ever seen? pictures would be very useful and highly appreciated.

$1: White?
$5: Red
$25: Green
$100: Black
$500:
$1000:
$5000:
$25000: Plaques, but what chip color would be amazing?
$100,000: Same as $25,000...what chip color?

Most casino $500 chips are some shade of purple, which can vary in hue to be readily differentiated from a black $100. Or you can use a lighter shade for $100, such as charcoal, dark gray, or gray.

Most casino cash $1000 chips are yellow, and most casino tournament chips are orange. Reds are pretty rare.

Many casino 5000 chips are either pink or gray. Lots of exceptions, but both of those are common.

Personally, I like to use yellow 1000 and orange 5000, or vice-versus. Capping it off with a blue 25K works well. White is a good color for 100K.

NJ/AC casino $1000 cash checks are all orange; I love me an orange chip. Many of the AC designs are lame for $1k, though. I liked the Plaza and Taj - they make nice tiger stacks - and I love the Borgata primaries.

Agree that Borgata colors are pretty nice, but the chips have too many spots...although that's a design issue. And I like the fact that $500 and 1K chips are larger...

Wynn's yellow 1K chips aren't too bad either...Although not too crazy about many of the Aria chip colors

This has to be one of the sweetest set of chips I could ever dream of having.......I do have some barrels of the buy-in chips but if anyone knows who 41pickup from CT IS, please tell him that my interest in these are beyond infatuation. Lol....that being said I think the execution of colors and spots couldn't really get much better. Now I will admit that usually with primaries and secondaries, both will have 1 - whatever amount of chips that would look better as a set. So it is kind of a treat when a casino has them and the @chiproom offers them because like you said, chip color and spots are and will be a personal preference, it is nice to have options. Tell me, what chips would ya'll choose from this set to make it yours? We'll say the chips on the left side of each denomination will be secondary. There are 2 5k's (top ones secondaries) but looks like only one 10k chip.

MINE:
5- secondary
25- primary
100- secondary
500- primary
1,000- primary
5,000- primary (bottom)
10,000- good enough for me

I'm curious to see what anyone else will pick if they play along.

I presume you are ordering a CPC set or otherwise. If it is CPC, you can use lavender for a 500 chip with a black hundo and there are no issues distinguishing them. If you are getting ceramics, then you have all the options in the world.

I totally agree, and I forgot to add that, when I order my CPC's,........they will be the best color combinations IMPO....LOL

Like BG pointed out $500s can be any hue of Purple to distance themselves from the black. Lately I have been building sets with Blue $500s, and I am a well known stickler for 'safe' and 'standard' colors vs. experimental and stupid/confusing color".

For plaques, re-using chip colors is not out of the question, as they are obviously not going to be mistaken. My thoughts on this vary, and would be dependent on the plaque manufacturer:
  • Replay the traditional colors in different shades. so maybe a money-green 25k and a onyx-black 100k.
  • Precious metals colors: Silver 25k, Gold 100k
  • Multi-color: Options are endless when the base color is difficult to differentiate from the "spot color", and the plaque as a whole is simply "art". Is the plaque below Red with a white stripe or white with 2 red stripes? Colors in this case could depend on the art/theme for your chipset.

In another thread I asked who makes the best chips, similar to Paulson chips, and was told CPC and I shouldn't ask for other vendors, as there are none...so, I stopped :)

Yes, it's likely to be CPC

Aria is my favorite Vegas rack from top to bottom...by a mile.

It's all about personal preference. There is no "best" but you're certainly welcome to your opinion(s) - even if you're wrong. ;)

The $5 and $25000 are too close... and the $100K chip is too bland...LOL...so there you go, that's my opinion and I am probably wrong ;)

Aria/Bellagio are great :-). I don't think the 5 and the 25k will be on the table together haha :-)

Maybe it’s not a 100 chip but what is that chip with grey base with yellow and orange edge spots?

The white "flag" chip is one of my favorites for sure.
