Two awesome sets. I've basically stolen one of the chip designs for my own set as the Rainier Room $500 may be finest orange CPC chip I've ever seen. The Cactus Pete inlays and cut cards really convey an amazing theme throughout. Something about them makes me want to have a player piano, sepia tone filters and the dirty dozen across the table from me.

Wish this was the finals. Congrats to both for making it this far.

Two great sets.

That said, the Cactus Pete's are up there for my favorite looking chip set of all time.

There's an understanding of balance between the label and the chips. With a label design that special, you want it to remain the center of attention. So for the majority of the chips, the set uses single color edge spots. This allows the higher denoms to get away with relatively simple edge spots, so the shaped labels don't get lost.

There's a spot progression and spot consistency (trips across the board) that works so well.

Plus the balance of the chip base colors. The $1 pops so much not just because it's bright peach, but because it isn't fighting the other chips for your attention with other day-glo bases. The higher denoms bring in some extra pop in the edge spots, but there's an overall understanding that in order to emphasize one thing you need to de-emphasize something else.

And finally the non-traditional (for most denoms) base colors. Aside from the $1s, aach color is in itself, pretty traditional - red, blue, brown, white, lavender. But a red quarter and a blue dollar are almost like ninth chords - off from a standard triad but not too far off.

An apex set.

Does Circle-Square really have that dramatic of a height difference, even across the same base color?!

I see it in the nickels, ones and Member chips... Maybe even the twenties.

Is it the perspective of the camera?

Yes! (resposting this from my previous thread as relevant to answering this question)

I emailed David from CPC and got the following response. For your reference I have also attached a photo so you can see the extent of the stack height difference.

"
They look perfectly normal to me. Within tolerance of +/- 3/1000ths of an inch per chip.
There isn't anything we can do really. We are using 75 year old equipment and they have always been like that.

Occasionally you can get an odd freak chips that is wildly thin or thick, but we've been measuring everything for a long time so there shouldn't be any of those or you'd be seeing stacks of 19, 20 and 21 all the same height.

If you shuffle all of them around you will get different results. We do that while inspecting and check them in a gauge to guarantee you can't get 19 or 21.
That's all casinos have ever required of us.

"

I'm not sure if they are within +/- 3/1000ths of an inch per chip unless it so happens that my two stacks were all +3 in one stack, and -3 in the other stack making the difference in each chip between the stacks different by 6/1000th of an inch. Then in a stack of 20 that would be roughly 0.12 inches or 3 milimeters, which is roughly what it looks like in the photo. When I have time I will bust out the vernier callipers.

Cheers!

This is my only gripe about the CSQ mold. everything else about it, and the chips were fantastic. Interested to know if other molds stack better as I am considering the A mold or horsehead for a future project...

p.s. my vote on Cactus Pete. It was a close call!

I notice Zero stack height difference between any of my CSQ's

I find the cheap Made in China racks hold the CPC's the best. They fit 20 chips and all are very snug.

There’s something to be said about crisp & clean chips- and Cactus nails is.

Rainers are great (inlay is super sweet), and I understand the $500 is a fave. The busyness of the Rainer $20 & $500 tipped it- they contrast sharply against the other sweet chips.

Two lovely sets- I really appreciate the creativity and artistry of the forum.

Lucky you! Obv from my pictures I have not been as lucky... Maybe I got a bad batch. Nothing I can do about it it seems!

Damn I love a good music theory analogy... just curious if you meant the Steely Dan "mu" chord, with just the added 2/9, or a full-fledged 9 which impiles a 7 also.
