BR Pro Poker Ceramic Chips (1 Viewer)

I have two custom sets. I'm a big fan.

To say that Tina chips are 1/4 the cost of BR is a complete falsehood. Half the cost is more accurate, but, then you have to account for buying extra Tina chips if you don't want 'spinners' in your set.

You’re right. I was just going off the advertised $2/chip price for 39mm. They are $1.05/chip if you buy 1k and a set of Tina 39mm no mold come in about .43/chip if you go custom. So 40% the price of a custom 1k chip order from BRPRO. If you go with a common first set size of 600 chips, it’s about 43% the price of a BRPro order of the same size.

That's the aligned edges price. Ceramics allow a lot of creative options where you don't need to do that.

Aren’t the BR‘s way less slippery than the Tina‘s. I always thought that comparing the two is an apples to oranges comparison and that the BR’s are way better quality. Am I wrong?

I don’t. Only a sample set. Why? Looking to sell? :)
 :ROFLMAO: I sold my first set of BR Pro customs to afford my second set, design and tastes change over time.

I wanted to compare the two chip sets so I picked up Tina customs. After evaluating both sets in live games, I've most recently sold my Tina customs, and kept my BR Pro set. I typically use the CPCs for my monthly game. You can find my chipsets (except the Tina set) in my sig.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other, they both have their own strengths. BR Pro stacks better and has unique stock patterns. Tina has mold patterns, labels, and more vibrant colors.

Yup. I don’t hate BRPros and when I first joined the forum I was going to get a semi-custom set of DDLM because I loved my sample set. Ended up getting some TINA no molds simply because they were more affordable and more unique.

One is definitely better. And one is definitely cheaper. There are trade-offs. I have thousands of both. And love both.

Are Tina no molds edge aligned? I thought most of those chips were designed so they didn't need to be edge aligned. To put the pricing comparison on more realistic terms, the BR Pro edge aligned pricing for 500-999 chips are .90, drops to. 80 for 1000-2999. My purchase of Bellagio no-molds was for 1300 chips, so, my frame of reference is at .80 per chip. If you take into consideration the extra 15-20 percent you need to purchase from Tina, due to spinners, then the actual cost isn't really that far apart.

Most Tina chips I've seen are clay-inspired.

Edge alignment from Tina is free, but they aren't very exact- many of my chips have at least one misaligned edge. I triple checked my .ai file- pretty sure they used part of the edge strip as bleed.

How exact are BR Pro edge alignments?

You paid 80 cents per chip for no-molds? Thats way too high and Im sorry. Cost is very far apart for most buys. I got full custom, edge-aligned 43mm Tina No-molds for less than 45cents per chip.

This isnt me saying Tinas beat BR, Im just saying they're much, much cheaper. I personally think the BRs are more slippery but stack better because they're more consistent and better quality. The tinas stacking is definitely annoying but I like the feel of them better than BRs feel

For custom they are currently $1.15 for edge aligned. TINAs are custom. If you got custom 1k BRPro chips for that you got a great deal. It’s no longer that price for BRPro customs. Tina no molds are $.35/each. $.35*1000 is still cheaper than $1.15*1000

FWIW I prefer the cheaper one, and would still buy them if the prices were reversed.
I have heard that Tina chips will wear and become slippery quickly. That’s the report I’ve heard from two chippers here who play often.

Will report back after I get some play in. New BR Pro is already a bit sturdier than new Tina.

My BR Pro order worked out at $0.80 per chip for non-aligned edges. That was in June 2023.

They’re not slippery at all and stack really well.

That’s awesome. I think for someone who doesn’t care about aligned edges and is going to order over 1k chips for a set, BRPro is a great, even if more expensive, option. $800 vs $350 can still be considered a significant difference for some.

This is from BR's website, today. My .80 cent reference is that I ordered 1300 Tina chips, so, if I ordered 1300 BR chips then the price would be .80 cents.

Generally, most here have stated that they have 15-20% spinners, so, add another 15-20% to the total order of Tina chips. My experience with spinners was about in that range. That's why I sold all the Tina's I had, with the exception of a rack that was bought on the cheap just to get my hands on them initially.

Sure. 1300 aligned edge customs is $1365. 1300 full custom Tina’s is $455. If you add on 20% more to accommodate your spinners you are at about $550 for TINAs. Even if you don’t go aligned BRP to make the two comparable, it’s $1040 for BRP. A $500 difference can be significant for someone’s first set and maybe they care about aligned edges?

Pulled up my order form from the Bellagio order, I bought 1225 chips for a total of $404. 1225 BR chips would run $980, for a difference of $576. Yes, to many that $576 can be a considerable amount. I ordered as many as I did because of the spinners, so I could have knocked off about $100 from that BR amount (figuring 10% spinners on the low side). $476 is still a fair amount.

Tina's obviously have their place, I just don't feel it's an adequate apples to apples comparison. Something every buyer has to consider for their own personal situation.

Please don't take my comments as a slight towards Tina's, I love the looks of them, and wanted so badly for them to work for me. I already had plans for about a thousand sets at their prices. Alas, wasn't to be, for me.

And if I went to a game and they were using Tina's I would ooh and aah over them, and, probably thorough enjoy playing with them for the night.

BR Pro provide high quality chips with responsive staff and great customer service. I really love my semi-custom Dia de los Muertos set from them. You pay for what you get, but you definitely get what you pay for, if that makes sense.

The obvious comparison BR Pro draws is to “Tina”, specifically Textured No Mold Chips, though her shop also makes Cards Mold, Diamond Mold, the new Hybrid Greek Mold, and so on…

For my most recent fully custom order, of 1400 chips, I went with Tina No Molds. This order cost less than 1000 semi-custom DDLM chips from BR Pro, and would have been significantly even cheaper than if I had done the custom order through BR Pro with aligned edges, which requires an additional premium (all price comparisons included at the bottom of this post).

I think where BR Pro shines is with their in house designs, many of which are very striking and creative, and which don’t come with the extra premium cost of customs or aligned edges. If you find any of those designs are to your liking after getting samples, then I say fire away, and I think you’ll be really happy with the set.

However, if you are considering going custom, then I think Tina can’t be beat - and it’s easy if you go through a group by with @justincarothers

In the end, I’m very happy with sets that I own from both manufacturers, always get samples, and go with what if the best fit for price and preference for you!

Here are prices for comparison:

If you’re looking for aligned edges on ceramic chips you’re missing out on the best thing about ceramics, which is that you have the whole face of the chip to play with.

The best ceramics I’ve seen use the entire face and don’t try to look like clay chips with aligned edges.

I only ordered BR Pros after playing with a set at a meet up. I really liked the way they felt compared to the Tina chips. I have a couple of barrels of Tina no molds (from the Scrub Donkey group buy) and the BR Pros are of a far better quality. That was one of the first orders anyone placed with Tina and the quality may have improved since.

There’s no right or wrong. Everyone has different tastes and budgets.
