Starting my chip journey as well and have been on the classified site for the last couple of weeks. Paulson chips typically are running $2-$3, but can easily spend more. Good luck.

What kinds of chips are you looking for? Tournament, or cash game? What are your tournament starting stacks or cash game stakes?
Particularly with cash chips, particularly at $1/$2 or higher, you can get casino used Paulsons for well under $1/chip. Like 70c per chip.
If I was looking for a 6-person table, I'd be looking at round or octagon. There are some quality table builders on here (@T_Chan, @Irish), but if I was looking for an octogon/round, I'd either be looking to build one, or buy one from craigslist. I see local octogons for $50 - $150 all the time. I don't think they are worth that (which is why I'd consider building one), but if you're not handy with a hammer, its an option.
