We finally got the group together for the inauguration of the table. Playing 6 handed 10ct/10ct NLHE on the Isle of Capri set felt awesome. Everybody had a good time and the new table got a lot of praise.

Usually I have a strict policy against eating at the table, but my very pregnant wife got a pass... This time.

In for €20, out for €44.80.

All in all a great night on a great table.
Only thing missing for some (me included) was a bettting line, but I've been working with @timinater on a custom felt over several weeks and we just finalized the design a few days ago. Stay tuned for the big reveal when it's printed and on the table.

That is awesome man, have a great time! I can't tell you how nice it was to finally play live NLHE in a nice setting again.
It was my first time felting mint chips and I gotta say, it was awesome.
Your Carmel Casino chips are gonna be da bomb.

Designing the custom cloth
It was clear from the get go that I was gonna need help with designing a custom felt for the table.

i chose @timinater as my champion and we went on this quest together.

The idea / theme for the table
"Bulle" (english: bull) is the German nickname for cops. It's usually derogatory in its meaning when coming from a citizen (like "pig" in the US), but among German Cops it's sometimes used endearingly.

The word "Runde" is German for "circle" or "a frequent gathering of". The German language is largely built around combining words to describe something more complex so "Bullenrunde" is what I've been calling my monthly game with cop colleagues.

So I asked Tim to create something sleek that combines the image of a bull with a police theme.

Of course it had to be in shades of blue. The only other color is the bright yellow that represents the decals on our patrol cars:

The pattern outside of the betting line is a combination of the German police star which usually frames the state crest:

and the monument of the city of Cologne, our famous cathedral:

After many iterations, we ended up with the final design.

I couldn't be happier with what Tim created and next up was ordering the actual cloth.

I had the great design by @timinater printed by a local gaming suede shop but wasn't happy with the end result.
It came out very dark and more in shades of lilac than blue. This wouldn't have bothered me that much but the pattern on the racetrack, Tim and I had spend so much time figuring out, was completely invisible.

The cloth itself was of good quality though and even if it wasn't all that I was hoping for it made it onto the table:

Even though I really enjoyed the new cloth I couldn't let it go and contacted @T_Chan shortly after in Aug 17th 2021.
He was great to work with and super helpful with test prints to make sure we get the right brightness this time.

A few weeks after I chose the brightness that looked best to us, I contacted Tony to find out where I was in his queue for printing, only to find out that he had shipped out the cloth 4 weeks ago! I completely missed his shipping e-mail (my fault, not his).

I checked the tracking number only to find out that the package arrived at german customs but never got picked up and that it had just been sent back to canada. Well fuck me.

That was at Nov 11th, 2021. The package completely vanished for almost 3 months until it finally got registered in canada again and was awaiting pickup by Tony.

He sent it back to germany AGAIN where I waited, meticulously eyeing the tracking until it arrived at german customs again at Feb 23rd 2022.
I paid the €56 in customs (fk me again!) and finally got to take it home with me.

It sat in a closet for another few weeks until I finally had the time to install it today.

Here's the difference in brightness compared to the old cloth:

Quite significant, I'd say.

Time to remove the old cloth!

Some careful ironing to get out the wrinkles from it's 6 month journey packed up tightly.

No more wrinkles after stapling.

And here we go, the final product:

Since I already conquered the kitchen table from my wife (be it only for an hour) I set up some chips to take a little stack picture on the new felt.

Love it.
