Hi everyone, I'm new here. First of all, I would like to apologize for any grammatical mistake that I could make.

I'm gonna be in Vegas for a couple of days in my way back in Spain and I was thinking about buying a chips set asuming that I'm gonna find good prices and tons of types/colors.

I'm not a pro in terms of chips sets & quality and I would like to upgrade the basic set that I have:

I always loved the EPT chips:

I know that I'm not going to find them in Vegas, but I would like to find something like that in terms of colours and design. The thing that worries me is the colour and the exterior design. I don't care about how the center draw is or how the value is shown. Obviously I'm asuming that a customized design is lot more expensive.

The point is. Does it worth to buy chips in Vegas? Am I going to find enough types and different sets to choose? Should I just forget about it?

Otherwise, I don't mind to buy them now online (I live in Vancouver right now) if you recommend me any website and avoid to waste a whole day looking for something that I'm not going to find. In Spain/Europe the poker chips are quite expensive and the only way to get ceramic or nice designs chips are online, so I could just save some money and the shipment.

Thanks!!!!

Good morning and welcome.

The best place to get chips in Las Vegas (aside from a casino cage) is a store called Spinettis. The place across the street called The Gambler's General Store offers chips as well but nothing much better than your chips pictured above.

One downside to buying a set of chips in the US, is taking them back to Canada with the rest of your luggage. This almost makes paying shipping worth while.

I would consider buying chips online. Straight Poker Supplies are based out of Toronto and offer free shipping on most orders over $65. They have some decent chips there.

Lastly, check out the classified section of the website here. Lots of deals to be had.

Most of us find our tastes change as we gain experience and exposure to higher end chips. In your case, you are likely so new that you don't know what you don't know. Visit Spinettis just to see what types of things are out there. Gasp at the prices - they are going to be ouchy expensive. But getting a feel for chips is an essential step in deciding what you want, so make sure you handle a range of chip types - either at the store or at a casino.

Welcome to PCF. You will find all sorts of tempations around here. If you catch the bug, kiss your wallet good bye.

Hahaha, thanks for the warm welcome and for the advice about my wallet xD.

Once I enter USA, I won't comeback to Canada. Going to Vegas is part of my last trip here in America before I come back to Spain (I will fly from Vegas to Europe), so bring them back to Vancouver is not an option.

As Dr.Strange says, the safe option is to first get a good feeling of the chips and see in person in Spinettis, but that means that I'm going to make the order (if I finally do it online after that) from Spain, and that's gonna be really expensive because of the shipping.

One important thing is that I don't care about a suitcase for it. I guess that makes the set more expensive and I prefere to choose how many chips for every value I choose and buy them in packs of 25/50 chips.

The designs that I like the most are most of the times in ceramic chips, but Can't find anything in local stores right? What I want to avoid is the classical chips that has standar design, like those that I shown and the paulson. (Maybe the paulson if I could change the colours pattern....)

The nice thing about ceramic chips is that fully custom ceramics aren't much more expensive than stock options. You'll want to figure out the difference between the different types of blanks (chipco and sun-fly are two common ones, but there are others). Game On Chip Company, Palm Gaming Imports and Old West Poker Supply all do great work.

If I recall correctly there is at least one company that makes custom ceramics in Europe.

http://www.mrchip.eu/stock_eu.htm

If you scroll down on the site, they make an EPT tribute that look a lot like the chips you pictured above. I think a friend of mine got his custom ceramics from MrChip but can't be certain. He was pleased.

Another cool thing about Spinetti's is you can buy chip samples there. This can give you a better idea of what each chip type is like. Also, Spinetti's is a pain in the arse to find. (it was for me, using google maps app).

Not a fan of Mr.Chip, but that's likely based on his past history. If overseas, I'd buy customs directly from Sun-Fly (better product for cheaper prices) long before I'd give that guy any of my money.

Welcome to PCF... Always get samples, and wait to get exactly what you want....DO NOT settle on something you kinda like, unless you want something to hold you over until you can get a custom set..IMO

Good luck..

Solid advice about getting something you really want vs just something you kinda like. I bought Milano's initially due to the cost but after getting them I never even got them into play before selling them and buying Paulson's and ceramic from Chipco/PGI.

Spinetti's is the place to go to get to look, feel, and listen to the chips. As mentioned, it's not the easiest place to find, but Google Maps will get you there. It looks like this from the front:

But it's easy to find the Gambler's General Store, and Spinetti's is right behind it, just a few steps through the parking lot. Only about a ten minute walk down Main Street from the west end of Fremont Street downtown.

Thank to all of you for the responses and advices.

I will follow your advice and I will just use the Vegas trip to make a research about products, brands, material, etc.
Then back in Europe I will be sure about what I want and maybe I can collect some extra money from riends that might be interested in make a custom chips for our games.
