I have started designing a Cali color set and I feel like the limiting factor is yellow chips.

My understanding is the following colors:
Fracs: Orange
$1s: Blue
$5s: Yellow
$20s: Black
$25s: Purple
$100s: White

What are other people using?
Ideally I am looking for a Paulson THC, no house mold. The 43mm AS 20 is pretty sick, but so is the price tag...

Suggestions on what other people have done, what they are looking for, and maybe what they dream for (like those magnificent spotted birds)...

Thanks!

There aren’t many Cali colored sets out there because yellows in quantity are like hunting unicorns, it took me 3 years to find my 3.5 racks. Those seven mile $10s are live...for $10/ea. I have the only yellow Irish Mikes I know of. The most plentiful (though not very) are Casino de Mexico 1s and 5s, and a few other similarly colored fantasy Paulsons. Cache Creek $1s are live on a house mold. There are very worn $1s live at Casino Real, in Manteca. Viejas $2s I think are live. Lac Courtes Oreilles closed and their chips were all purchased, not sure if the $2s will ever surface for sale.

Chip guide query is your friend. Seems like there are a lot of people trying to build Cali sets.
I got tired of clicking through each casino....How do you do the query? I see a CG and Catalog #, which I don't know either.

That Casino de Mexico $1 is pretty nice, that $5 is interesting, like a coffee color.

That CdM $5 color is Paulson Mustard.

True for many (but far from all) Cali chips for $1 through $5. Fracs are really all over the place, but red quarters or green 50c chips are pretty common.

Just my 2c but the CDM $1 is what you want. The CDM $5 with base color mustard is not nearly as nice. It all depends what you are going for but personally I like the bright colors and pastels. Base color mustard is boring compared to the popping color of the CDM 1.

The CDM 1 or Gardena 5 pictured above are absolutely stunning in person.

I settled with some of these for my cali/PBCL project.

I have yet to see them in person but I think they will come together quite nice.

The Aurora Star tourney set had a yellow 1000 chip. Photos don’t do it justice.

That's my current go-to yellow THC chip -- can be relabeled, or milled with laminated label inserted.

Originally had plans to reorder a bunch of extra ES T5000s, but that idea sank.....

Its too bad. It is a shame that whole thing went sideways. It would have been cool if the world ended up flooded with a bunch of mint THC chips. Imagine how many relabel projects could have been completed.

Alas...maybe in an alternate universe. I love the ES 100, ES 500, and ES 25k pictured above.

The AS 1k while fitting the bill of being yellow and THC doesn't excite me. A bit drab IMO.

I don't know who Irish Mike was but his Yellow is still my favorite. Pisses me off there is only one set of them and @kmccormick100 has all of them. Maybe one day I can win them over from him ;). My signature is literally just for him at this point I guess:meh:. It might not be a bright vivid yellow like I normally like, but his pastel set just looks top notch.

Oh man, that is a Cali set just waiting to happen.

Orange 1000 Frac (25c)
Blue 25,000 $1
Yellow 5000 $5
Black 100 $20
Purple 500 $25/$100

They’re either “Canary” or “Yellow” with brass flakes added in that slightly alter the color a bit darker. Definitely brighter in person than pics.

Yea, my first choice was the horseshoe Gardena $5 or a chip of similar color but those are pretty few and far between. The Mint Club $5 will hold me over till I find something else. While it’s definitely a mustard color, a quick cleaning does make them a bit brighter.
