Cash game Starting stack and buy in recommendation (1 Viewer)

what game do you play and what’s the typical buy in?

Its been almost a year since ive been on here since the birth of my daughter. I wanted some.recommendation for starting chip stack for cash game?

100 big blinds works well. For example, a $1/2 game then $200 or for a $1/3 game, $300. We will let someone buy in for a minimum of 50 big blinds if that makes them more comfortable.

I’m sure you will get varying opinions.

80 to 200 big blinds is the ideal range, 250 big blinds if you want to play deep stacks, but need to know game/stakes to advise on starting stacks... $0.25/$0.50? $0.50/$1? $1/$1? $1/$2?

I have 25 cent chips 1 dollar chips and $5 chips just trying to get an idea we may have closer yo 10 guys for a cash game.but i want to mske sure i have enough chips for everyone.

Maybe its easier if you guys got a good format for 20$ buy in cash game and starting stacks how many buy ins shouls i cap at?

I was thinking .25/.50 cus like i said all i have are .25/1/5 chips or maybe .50/1 im thinking to cap at 2 more buy ins.

At $20 buy in and that chip count, it sounds like a $.25/.25 game could work. 80 big blinds should give you a bit of action, and you have plenty of extra 5's for a good amount of $20 rebuys.

Starting stacks at $20, ten players:
25c: 8
$1: 13 / 18
$5: 1 / 0

Add more fives for rebuys and/or higher buyins. You should be fine with the chip count you have for $20 buy in at these stakes, but as your game grows to .25/.50 (upwards of $40 buy in) you'll need more fives.

Yeah if $20 buy in is where you group is .25-.25 blinds is best as @mrplacey and @Beakertwang already said. 80 bb is on the short side of average, but not crazy short like playing .25-.50 would be on a 20 buy in, that would be 40bb and players will get all in too frequently.

(If your group is game, doing .25-.25 with 25 or 30 buy is still good, and will offer bigger 100bb or 120bb stacks, respectively.)

I would suggest a 40-60 buy in before moving up to .25-.50.

Your set covers 850, which is 42 buy ins of 20, or 4 per player 10-handed. That should be plenty.

If you do decide to move up, you probably want to get more ones and fives.

Good luck :).

Realistically we usually get like 6-8 guys on average but my buddies been asking to put a cash game together and i said sure.

What does 13/18 mean for 1s?

6-8 handed you should be plenty good to do .25-.25 with a 20 buy in. I think that's your best answer for a first try. Adjust accordingly if the feedback is they want to play bigger.

Don't cap the number of buy-ins. We just finished a thread discussing this idea. A cash game is not a tournament, there is no good reason to limit how many times people buy new chips.

I host or play in some version of a $20 buy in game ~60 nights a year. People want to try their luck, even on unlucky nights. A ten buy-in "bad night" is more common than not. ( Almost ) Every player would much rather peel off another $20 than go home early.

Thank you guys for the help. Also any recommendation on some new chips.and where to go? Looking into purchasing some new ones

@Bearbocmc the classifieds here are a great place to look. you’ll find everything from cheap faux clays to grail paulsons at $5+ per chip, and everything between. are you looking to add on to your set or start a new one?

I agree with this as well. I have played this game and I host a similar game that is also a $20 buy in. The blinds in my game are $0.25/$0.25 and I start off with stacks as follows:
8 x $0.25
18 x $1
Although sometimes if I want a night with a bunch of chips I do the following
12 x $0.25
17 x $1
The $5s come out later when we have several rebuys and even now and then I will out in a few $20 or $25 chips in the mix for a rebuy. This gives us a "target chip". Depending on the how many quarters I give out in the original buy in I can generally cover this game with one rack of quarters and two to three racks of ones. I do not and will not cap the buy ins and everyone has fun.

I use
25c x 20
$1 x 10
$5 x1

Blinds are 25c/25c works great.

As someone who has been researching this for the past 4-5 days, you may as well be asking, “How do you take your coffee?” I’m suffering from information overload on this subject.
