Both sets are great, and I'd gladly own either one. But if I could only own one, the superb colors of the wsop set would win out. So much so, that I'd rather have the GCOP replicas than Dunes replicas, and probably pick them over original Dunes, too.
Same for me. Dunes are a great set but I love bright chipes

Dunes - all day, every day.

The nostalgia factor alone gets them the win here and probably all the way to the final.

WSOP for me.

Things I like better about WSOP over Dunes
  • Colors
  • Spot pattern
  • Mold (and that's saying something, because there's not many molds I like less than RHC)

I love the nostalgia of a vintage Vegas set, but I prefer the Trops in that arena.

After the mold, what kills the Dunes set for me is that $25 chip. That dull green with monochromatic spots just isn't for me.

All the nostolgia brings an expert question to mind (perhaps for another thread, or another forum that mere humans cannot navigate)...

What was the first casino to use an inlaid chip?

Great question. Dunno the answer, but the earliest inlaid small crown (TRK) chips of which I am aware were made in 1954.

I'm really surprised the votes are this close (and that Dunes are presently winning). Those WSOP colors are fricken sick, they pop so much, I would donate both my kidneys for a set!

I used to feel that way about the 25 chip, but after holding them in my hands, they start to grow on you. The grey spots just draw you in.

I've had the good fortune of holding/handling some near mint ones and I 100% agree that they're better in person. I also found that I was quite easily give them back to their owner when done...no attachment in the least.

This is a tough call. Dunes are beautiful and the oversized baccarat chips are sweet butter... But the WSOP chips were very unique sets, I'm not entirely up on my chip history yet - so perhaps they weren't the first to break the mold [no pun intended... or would it even be a pun in that case?] but when I first saw them on TV I had never seen a set stray so far from the typical casino color schemes. The narrow edge spots leaving plenty of room for the vibrant colors... I always thought HD tv was pointless back then but those neon chips, wow I just wanted to see them more clearly so bad.

That being said, the inlays aren't really any good, but they also were a curveball compared to the more traditional styles. Classicism vs. bold innovation? I guess I tend to go back and forth on that one but for this one I'm gonna pick WSOP.
