When I host home games, I use a clay type of chip. But I'm curious that people who are coming to the home game prefer a clay chip or ceramic chip. Which chip makes the game feel more real where the people can associate the chip to a dollar amount.

For a more real casino feel - clays. For a casual night - ceramics

To me, clays have better feel where ceramics have better art

I’m sure I would disappoint with my inventory as I’m just starting out my chipping career haha

My thought was that you can put more art work on a ceramic chip (Kiki kings, dia de los muertos, etc) vs a clay chip. No doubt there are beautiful clay chip out there
Lol, no surprises here. I came here to show off my crappy walmart chips, we've all been there!

Sure, I understand that. I have and value both for sure. I enjoy weird colors and splashy games.

Well this is what I’m working with - Venerati (pre-2018)

I decided to with ceramics cause I like the durability/longevity. I wanted something simple and classy for my first set. I think next step is a tournament set of custom Tina’s to replace the dice chips (didn’t think dice chip pron was wanted here but can provide upon request lol). Then eventually make the upgrade to cash and tournament sets of Paulsons

Up to you, but by almost all accounts clays are more durable and last longer, they age very well. That's part of the reason why their resale value is so reliable.

Your chips are fine, better than a big majority of the world's home poker games.

I guess for starting off I was considering china clays vs ceramics. I wasn’t a fan of the durability of china clays.

From samples and other forums here, I would agree that Paulsons/CPC have great durability and feel great with playing with. I’m just not ready to pay for a set yet

You can say what you want but first run Veneratis are still looking sweet today. And they are really durable (no nicks, chips, cracks or fading).

Super fair. Agreed! Good luck, have fun!

It depends who you are at the table with and the room you are in:

1. I would never play on a hard floor without carpet or padding.

2. If you play with a bunch of mutants who can't tell the difference between a dice and a paulson there is no chance I would put my best custom sets to use.

3. Clay for more elegance, ceramics for fun.

If you’re playing with good players, who respect your set - Clay. There’s just nothing like it.

For casual games with friends, decent poker players - ceramic or plastic.

If you start off with the most basic poker chips, ceramics and clays are huge upgrades. Especially if customized to your liking. Because of the affordability of customizing, I went with ceramics in when I made my first “big order”. Clays are personal preference of many and they feel very nice. My goal is to some in the near future
