China Clay Sets (1 Viewer)

...and with custom labels, the orange have 50% more "pop".

I just drooled a little... Those are pretty colors

Nearly all of the various china clay chips produced to date have been mentioned already in this thread, so I'll just fill in the blanks.

The three types of spirit mold blanks previously mentioned were some of the first china clays ever made (the spirit mold marking is the corporate logo of Eastony Industries, who produced them -- it is sort of a reversed look of the Sprint corporate logo, hence the confusion around that misuse of 'sprint' mold). There were two labeled chip lines made available on the 4D14-spotted version of the spirit mold chips, from daVinci Imports: Pyramids Casino, and Casino da Vinci. Eastony still offers the spirit mold, now called the Aurora line.

In addition, TheChipRoom also offered 8V-spotted blanks on the reverse-S (scroll) mold, and MrChip.eu offered a few different stock labeled chips (plus blanks) on the coffee & biscuit mold. There have been a few other odd-ball molds and spot configs (614 spots on the spirit mold) produced, as well.

I'd have to verify, but I'm pretty sure that PGI started offering their china clay chips in 2007 or so -- that would be about 8 years ago. I think the daVinci chips were available maybe a year earlier.

Thank you for finally getting to the history! :)

You can see the rest of the CPS chip colors here. The tournament pr0n starts around Post #45, and the cash chips a bit later. You'll see they don't really compare to CPC chips (starting at post #1), but for the price I have no qualms with China Clay.

You can also check out straight poker supplies who have what they call the cash club set as well as a western themed set who's name escapes me.
I have the cash club set and they are identical to the gold rush, desert heat, clay smith chips. Our group really likes them.
If your order of from the states your going to get an almost 30% discount due to the exchange rate right now.

Hi, how do the CPS chips feel in comparison to the Milanos or Pharaohs, of which I have samples? Will probably get a sample of the CPS, just curious since they look textured. Also, the plastic Dunes chips are one of my favorite to look at, and they don't sound too bad, just don't test their sound next to CCs or anything more expensive.

I have had Milanos as well and found those to be more slippery and not to stack as well as the CPS, fwiw.

I have milanos...my Dad had a set of cps and I have some on my desk at work...don't care for the heavy cross hatching...but other than that they're nice

IMO, CPS chips are more vibrant than the Milanos.

My Milanos differed in thickness from one denom to the next (the hundos were thinner)

I think the Milanos "feel" more substantial, probablly from a smaller label (this more clay to the touch).

In a stack of 10, both Milano (25s) and CPS chips stacked to the same height.

Both weighed the same (to 1/10th of an oz) in a stack of 10 (3.3 oz). The Milano hundos weigh 3.4 oz in a stack of 10.

CPS cross hatching, while requested during the group-buy turned out to be a bit of a bust, especially for players who like to shuffle.

I will be conducting a stack test later... keep an eye out for that thread...

The cross-hatching when I initially received my set was a detriment to shuffling. However, it didn't take long to break the chips in to the point that the cross-hatching doesn't negatively impact my shuffling stacks.

I mean, when you get minty new custom clays or paulsons those have a breaking-in period as well where they don't shuffle as nicely as you'd want.

I think there is also a thickness variation in the CPS (assume you meant CPS and not CPC) with one or two denoms in particular. I'll have to check when I get home but I thought the 500s were one of the culprits.

Fixed my post. Thanks Links!

Here's 2 barrels of hundreds 2 barrels of 500s, and 2 barrels of another CPS chip (I forget which, mine were labeled differently because I didn't like the 100 spots so close to the 500s) You can see the 500s (middle) are 1/2 chip taller than the 100s (left), and about 1/4 chip taller than the other chip (right). That gives me 1/80 of a size difference, nothing I'd complain about.

The milano was exactly 1 chip off with a stack of 24. In the pic below, there are 24 100s and 24 500s. The top 500 lies completely flat.

I actually have little preference between "stock" CPS or Milanos. Since my CPS are custom labeled, they see more play (which may account for brighter colors) , but the Milanos get action when I take the show on the road as they are cheaper and easier to replace.

I had Milanos for a long time and never had much issue with stacking. Since the have more "clay" face-to-face interaction they stack better than the Pharaohs in my opinion. I wasn't too crazy about the heavy cross-hatching on the CPS chips.

Thanks for the thoughts and comparison, guys, on the different CC chips.

Where can you get blank CPS chips? I've found the Milano blanks on Apache. I'd also be interested in any other CC blanks available for when I decide to use my own designs.

Happy to send you send a set gratis just PM your addy if interested.

Welcome aboard!

Just another opinion to consider, I have a set of Milanos and think they are the best china clay chip there is. Conversely I had plans on ordering a set of CPS chips and after getting samples and playing with them in tournaments a few times, well let's just say I was very happy I didn't jump on that boat from the begining. I was so truned off by the crosshatching and the color (from the effect of the crosshatching) that I won't order anything more than a sample set of Majestics sight unseen.

Take it for what it's worth though, someone could post right after me with the exact opposite opinion and be just as right as I am. Like has been said a million times before, sample stacks of a few different brands/types of chips you are interested in is a very cheap insurance policy against shelling out more money for poker chips than you ever thought you would and being unhappy. Even for a set of china clays it's worth it because, lets face it, the average person who isn't a chipper thinks they are breaking the bank and "stepping up to the big time" with a Dice chips set and cc's are significantly more expensive in comparison.

Aww man! I literally ordered a sample right before reading this. Thank you very much for the offer! I would have even sent them back after getting a feel for them.

I tend to agree with you. While there are different aspects of the other CC chips that I like, I still keep going back to the Milanos as my favorite total package. I have yet to see the CPS samples, though. And you're right, it's all about preference with no right or wrong. I just like hearing why people like certain ones because maybe they throw out an angle I hadn't considered.

As promised, I ran and filmed the test. The CPS chips did not maintain stability as well as the Milanos, but it was close. When pressure was applied to the chips (light pressing down with a finger with a slight twisting motion) the CPS stacks stood much better.

They removed the cross hatching from the majestics so I jumped in early...hoping for the best!

I am glad they removed that, otherwise you'd have eggs being cracked open with new chickens all over your new chippies.

China Clay should last a long time under normal use. I've had 2 break in half either from shipping or during the washing process (I washed 2000 in a jacuzzi tub, and may have stepped or sat on it). That however, is well within the acceptable loss range for the price, and definitely not normal.
Lol huh? Is there a story there? Bubble bath with some chippies?

All I know is that I didn't come home and take a relaxing soak.... That and it takes quite a while to dry 1,979 chips.
