Do anyone else use JnJ Baby Oil GEL to oil clay chip (specifically Paulson)
I do find that, even after drying for a few days under the sun and all, there is a bit of "stickiness" on the chip itself.
Just wondering if it's just me or if this happen to anyone else? Thanx

Well, Paulson chips aren't ceramic, but @liftapint uses gel to oil her chips.

I would not dry your chips out in the direct sun! Since the outside temperature can get very high in Singapore, you risk softening the clay and inadvertently causing the chips to warp.

I recommend just using regular unscented mineral oil. No need for added viscosity agents in a gel formula. Light compression, taking care to avoid excess on the inlay area. Dry on a bed of absorbent material (paper towel or fabric towel) indoors at room temperature, allowing the excess oil to seep into the material. Flip the chips after a few hours to a day, Wait the same amount of time for the second side to be done, then rack 'em up.

well not exactly in direct sun but rather on my table indoor where the sun do shine through couple of hours in the afternoon.
Getting mineral have been a challenge locally and guess I will need to go online for my hunt.
However, the JNJ baby gel is not creating smell (the clay still smell errr clay )

Question is with mineral oil does it err sticks / feel sticky?

Oiling with regular mineral oil should never cause a stickiness afterward. I think you're feeling the effect of whatever polymeric/starch-like compound used as the viscosity agent. The oil component would be taken up by the towel underneath, while the aqueous component will evaporate. You may have to wipe it off with a bit of water. Don't use detergent or else you'll take away all the oil from the chip and have to start from scratch.

Many here complaining about cleaning their nice Paulsons and here I am wishing I had just one rack of them. I'd gladly clean all the chips you want by hand for a rack of Paulsons. Having said that, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with cleaning Classic Poker Chips? They seem to be a little different than Paulsons, with a rough finish that I'm afraid to rub off with a magic eraser. Any ideas?

So you have Paulson Classics? I didn't follow that part. If you have Classics, they say "Paulson Chips" on the mold, brother, you have Paulsons. Classics and all those home chips they made, are all awesome. NPS, Pharaoh's, CDIs, and the Classics! Sweet Paulsons goodness. Sure, they aren't BTP or SBs I guess, but who cares about a circus tent or a surfboard on the label ?? Am I right, or am I right??

I've have owned and sold a set of Classics and I presently own 900 Pharaoh's. I've washed each one of them by hand. One by one...with the Dawn soap and toothbrush routine. Made them nice and clean. I did use Magic Eraser, but only for a few dirty chips.

You should not worry too much about the Magic Eraser. Use it gently and cut up small pieces of the foam so you can localize on a spot instead of doing the whole chip. That's how I use it. Don't just scrub aimlessly. Scrub a little, have a look, scrub a bit more. No need to grind the pad on the chip. I will agree the Magic Eraser does seem aggressive and I have transferred color to the sponge with some chips. It's rare, but it does happen, so I do believe that too much magic Eraser is a bad thing. For some chips, it seems only so much can be done..

Would love to see some pics of the set. Good luck with the cleaning..

I WISH! The chips I have are manufactured by Classic Poker Chips out of New York. I have some of the A-mold and some of the Horsehead mold. They are clay chips just not Paulsons, although they are of superb quality and in many ways the designs are better than Paulsons IMO. It is the same company that makes a clay replica set of the 'Rounders' chips, one of the best poker movies of all time, and they also allow you to design your very own chips on one of over a dozen molds with as many clay combinations as you desire. They have a very rough stipling on them and that is what scares me. Thank you for the response. I tried the toothbrush and Dawn on a few of the hot press chips I have and it didn't affect the texture of the chips at all, however all of my gold inlay is now gone (gotta fail sometimes to learn, right?). I will post a pic as soon as I figure out how so you can check them out.

As far as cleaning them, that's a great question. Although, I can't imagine them getting gross like casino chips, I would probably still give them a whirl in the ultrasonic for 20 seconds just to get the oils and surface grime off.

No detergents in the ultrasonic for CPC/ASM chips! You may inadvertently damage them! CPCs just need a little bit of oil and that's it. Old dirty ASMs should probably be done by hand with Dawn dish soap.

Yeah, I think I had read not to use detergents with the CPCs. I wonder what makes them so delicate compared to Paulsons

Chemical composition. Proprietary. For some reason TSP and metasilicates actually cause breakdown of the chip material. Doesn't seem to happen with Paulson's or BCC's, of which I've cleaned tens of thousands. I'm wondering if it would do the same to TRKs.

Most of the chip cleaning discussed in these threads is because the chips were purchased as "casino used." If nice new chips ended up looking like these after some home games... I would definitely consider getting some new friends.

Chip shufflers have to clean chips A LOT. I can shuffle Paulsons for 10 to 15 minutes and they will already have the black spots appearing. It is a real pain, and my OCD means I'm cleaning chips a lot. I have stacks I shuffle and Paulsons are the only ones that do this in such a short period of time. No issues with CPC or cheaper chips like Milano.

Tsp requires no scrubbing. You just wipe the chips off. But you will need to oil them afterwards since they get faded
