So, the outer part of the chip with the recessed areas is referred to as the mold, and the inserts or edge spots are the various colors/patterns on the outside.rim pattern/colour?
I would say it is better not to use chips with higher denoms and then divide by 100, especially if you're mostly going to be playing micro or small stakes.
I would get some samples of the chips in your budget range, also samples of Paulson RHCs (mold type) so you can compare feel.
One thing that is often overlooked IMO is a plastic chip vs a plastic chip with a label.
I'm a fan of BRPro ceramics and Apache plastics (referred to as CC aka China Clay)
I'm not a fan of Tina's chips, even those with a label, although I prefer those over their other options.
I'm not a big fan of the feel/slipperiness of the chips and the political factor of their business practices.
For any of these chips there are ways to design a custom label; There are plenty of ppl here that can assist with the design aspect of it for you. This process is typically finding something you like then talking with the designer to create the files you'll need for the vendor to use.
BRPro has amazing customer service and can work with you on design, depending on what you're looking for or need they might not have a service fee. I like these because you can choose any CYMK color for your design.
I bought the Apache chips in the color I wanted for the base, but that is about all the control I had over them. The label that came on it wasn't the right denom, so I fixed that on the label. I removed the labels that came on them and then applied a custom label made by a site vendor. I also used a site designer to help design it.
Here is the Apache website
