Hey everyone!,

I got started collecting chips this year, and have been enjoying it greatly. It all began while looking for an authentic home set, versus other chips on the market. But what I really found interesting is the chip style of the Grand Victoria Chips versus the Cleveland Horseshoe chips. They seem to be made out of a different material, and it almost seems like the Grand Victoria Chips have more weight. Yet loving the fact that the Horseshoe chips are newer, and saw much less play. So i'm curious to get others thoughts on paulson chips... not just colors, casinos and molds, but did they change how they make them too?

The formulas today are lead free. Perhaps those chips were made before the change. Not sure on the dates this all went down. I'm sure someone else can give details that I don't have ATM.

Grand Victoria (IN) chips were produced in 1996, back when the Paulson formula contained lead (and a lot of it). The formulas changed over a period of time from 1999-2005 or so, and no longer contain any significant amounts of lead. The Horseshoe Cleveland chips were produced in 2012 using the new formulas, which contain a different component for added weight.

I have been on these sites since 06' and I still don't really care if my chips have lead in them.....

I suppose its fine... just wash your hands? really liking the Grand Victoria feel. Horseshoes aren't bad though. really love the $1 chips
thanks for all the help

Also wondering what you all think of the "newness" of the Horseshoe chips? and for those who have been collecting for awhile, i'm curious, because it seems like it would be very rare that "casino used" chips as new as the horseshoes won't come to market that often? so with other sets collectors have... what has your experience been? is it hard to build a usefull casino set with chips as new as these?

I love the 1's and the 500's (primary) in this set. definitely think they are something special. and the 1's don't seem that worn after they are cleaned up.

I will admit... there still is something about the sound and feel of the Grand Vics that I love. But really like both sets for different reasons. Although I'm not really a fan of the $25 Grand Vic chips, but love the sound and feel of the leaded chips.

Grand Vic secondaries are some of favorite! You have great taste for a newcomer my friend.

Thanks, there has been a lot to learn, especially when considering building different set. Thinking I like using $25 for $0.25 chips in a home cash game an $100 as $1... for now. How often do chips like what happened with the Horseshoe casino come to market?

It's been a little while ... but I think it is looking good that they may come here more often. The Horseshoe in Cincinatti re-branded to JACK.

I don't have any inside knowledge but I'm hoping those got scooped up and will be sold here. So keep a look out for those. Also very nice chippies. :)

Also consider using the $2.50 for a quarter too. They are usually pretty unique.

Actually you are in luck!!

I just saw one of the new site vendors, The Chip Exchange will be selling the Horseshoe Cincinnati chips!!!

Just posted today. Go have a look and follow that thread!
