Condado Beach Tribute Set - The Pier Five Hotel and Casino (4 Viewers)

Ooooh, I like the idea of primary Empress $100s! I do think those would be a better fit here!! Definitely worth a try.

Stunning set you've made there.

Agree with BG empress $100s would probably work better but still really like the PCAs in this set.

As much as I like the PCA secondary $100 chip (one of my favorites of all time), I still think the softer spot colors of the Empress primary $100 are a better color fit for this set (I think I sold my mint primaries to djmarc; you might try contacting him via pm/email).

The Empress primaries would be awesome, but I'm still a big fan of this set! Nice work!

Thanks for the thoughts on the $100 chip, and the set itself. I appreciate the feedback and the fact that you guys like the way the set is coming together.

I also agree with BG in terms of the colors. I've mocked up the Empress chips from images a few weeks back (I don't actually own any of the chips) and it does look better (than the PCA) in this set. I'll post the picture tonight.

My hesitation in using them, however, was that I was under the impression that it wasn't possibly to get near-mint conditions ones. Although BG mentioned there are some out there, at the time I was looking to use them as $20 chips, and would have needed a couple racks. However, now that I have gone back to using the greens as $25 chips, and blacks as $100, I would only want/need a couple barrels (and to be honest, it's more for show as I've never actually put any $100 chips into play). So I guess the bottom line is that I'll go back and bump my WTB ad where I'm looking for black 818 chips and see if I can't score a barrel or two of near-mint Empress chips. And now that I've "allowed" the non-mint blue quarters sneak in the set, I suppose I could relax my condition requirements on the $100 chips a bit. I'll just need to use the 1/5/25 chips enough to even them all out :D

The blue quarters work quite nicely. Now, about that $500 chip......

Thanks. I think the color goes well, and despite not being 818 (8A18), the 418 as a fractional seems like a decent fit with the higher denominations. Ideally I would love to find these (or the equivalent) in closer to mint condition. However, since I already have 2 racks sitting around that aren't being used with anything else, they seemed like a good candidate to start with. Plus the beauty of labels is that there's next-to-no commitment if I find a better alternative/condition chips down the road. Basically just a $20/rack (+time) change fee.

As for the $500 chip, that would be entirely for show; Though the thought of hosting a game where $500 (cash) chips were in play is exciting

Here's what the Empress would look like as a $100. Could only find a low resolution chip picture, so the quality isn't great.

Might I suggest one of these chips with 1/8" spots

Or if you insist on a true 818 spot and don't mind a minor mold variation, just pick one of these:

You won't need very many, and they will provide plenty of show. (y)

Any of those high denomination ACF Paulsons would work quite nicely, though I think the pink 5000 would work best. I won't hold my breath trying to pick up a barrel of those :)

Not that these are a (realistic) option either, but I don't think I could deal with (consciously creating) a mixed mold set.

All of the love I have for my PCA secondaries set is somewhat marred by the RHC $1 chips. As it is, I'm dealing with a LCV $5 chip surrounded by their SCV cousins.

My samples from @Gear arrived this afternoon. I feel this version (bottom row) is a big improvement over the original design (top row). The changes include making the lighthouse graphic less dense (looks more clear now, especially in person), changing both the main text and denomination font, changing the denomination color and adding a slight gradient to the background. There were probably a few more little tweaks, but those are the main ones.

The other major change, and it won't be as evident from the pictures, is I went from a laminated textured label to a non-laminated matte label. Although all things equal I would have preferred a textured laminate, the recess depth on the chips was just a little too close for comfort, and above all I didn't want to compromise the handling of the chips. I'm happy to report that although I was most nervous about that change, it turns out fine as the matte vinyl looks and feel great. Not saying I wouldn't prefer laminated labels all things equal, but I'm not ready to remove the inlays on 1400 chips just yet.

Below are actual pictures, not mock-ups :)

Those non-matching mold chips gotta go.....

Beautiful!

They came out great!

The latest version with gradient and better denomination coloring is really nice.

They've turned out great. Nicely done.

Thanks everyone!

Believe it or not, the labeled chips look even nicer in person. I think all the tweaks from the original worked out well as the current label looks a lot more polished and appealing (IMO).

Just trying to decide if the gradient effect was a little too much, or if it's just enough. I think that's the hardest thing to try and evaluate from the pictures as opposed to seeing the chips in person. What's also strange, though I suppose somewhat expected based on the mockups, is that the gradient appears darker on the $1 and $25 chips as compared to the $5 and $100 chips (due to the fact that the gray $1 and light green $25 chips are lighter colors compared to the brick red $5 and black $100).

These came out looking great. Nice job!
Those are fabulous!

Thanks!

How in the world did I miss this thread until today?

What a great idea! Love those 818 spots, and your color choices are fantastic.

On some level the colors choose themselves as there aren't a ton of mint/near mint 818 Paulsons out there for sale in large quantities. Plus, I already had the 3 racks of green Aztar $25 chips, 1 rack of gray Casablanca $100 chips and 2 racks of the blue Scandia $1 chips that weren't being used with any other sets. The critical piece of the puzzle was finding a suitable $5 chip. Coming across the red brick Casablanca $100 chips was basically the key to moving forward with the set. I'd love to find a barrel or two of mint/near mint Empress $100 chips (I have 25 used but still in nice shape chips at the moment, very generously given to me by a fellow PCF member).

Freaking beautiful set. Loving every bit of it. Bonus points for the Maryland inspiration :)

Thanks! I actually thought about putting "Baltimore, MD" with curved text on the bottom, but didn't want to risk making the design too busy and/or having to shrink the rest of the design.

Not that you plan on selling these anytime soon, but I think that including a location reference would hurt resale value.
