New to this platform, I appreciate everyone's willingness to share knowledge. These are not being offered for sale or trade currently...

I was wondering if I could get a few opinions on the condition of these Sundance $25s. My guess would be casino used/good. I know what mint means, these are not those but I'm a bit lost after that. People discuss edge conditions and rounding, I'm not sure how else to evaluate them. They are not warped, these have just been cleaned. If I were to trade them I would not want to misrepresent what they are (or are pictures really what defines the condition?). I'd appreciate any opinions, thanks.

Thank you. Cleaning them isn't an issue is it? They are fairly filthy and seem to come out of it nicely.

Cleaning them isn't an issue is it?
Generally no, at least for those of us who play with their chips. I’ve heard some singles collectors prefer their chips uncleaned. Puke.

But cleaning tends to dry chips out. You can also end up fading the colors or damaging chips in other ways. So personally, if chips need to be cleaned, I’d much rather do it myself than rely on the seller to not screw then up.

Casino Used can be a very wide range, in trying to narrow that down some I would likely post something along the line of: Casino Used G/VG, indicating that they were in fact used in a casino, but, the G (good)/VG (very good) to indicate that they can stand on edge, have no visible flea bites, etc. Terminology in this hobby is undefined, in this area, therefore, quality pics go a long way in selling an item.

Welcome to the forum!

Descriptions can always be a little subjective.

Here are my thoughts and opinions on chip conditions and I have seen this ‘standard’ used in many descriptions and I have bought and sold thousands of chips with no complaints or regrets:

Mint: Fresh out of the box brand new (even if made decades ago) - never played - still chalky.

NM: (Near Mint) Like above, but handled a few times - but not in the casino. Still have sharp edges, no flea bites or any issues (warping, etc) and manufacture clean (never soiled)

EX/VG: (Getting a little subjective now) Close to above - but probably placed in play in home games a few times - or if from a casino taken very close to the release from the cage. May have flea bite or two in in about 3-5% of rack. No other damage or issues - still very clean. Barrels stack evenly high with NM.

Good: Multiple flea bites in a rack of chips; slightly softened edges but will stand on edge with no problems. Shows some signs of play (a little dirty) and wear on faces. A few chips in a rack may be slightly warped. Still stacks close to VG.

Casino Used: Pretty much runs a gambit from chips that are more worn than the ‘good’ chips described above to dirty ‘bicycle tires’ - usually will not stand on edge and faces are worn too. A stacked barrel will be almost a chip shorter than a NM chip.

As previously stated though…. Even the best descriptions are still subjective. And (when selling) I always provide numerous sharp photos and a disclaimer to, “ view the photos and judge for yourself.”

These chips were grimy from usage (and dry) but I cleaned one and very lightly oiled it and the results are in the pictures. They are not heavily worn and it was hard to tell until they were clean. I appreciate all the advice here, there is a lot to learn.
