I really want to put together a cash set with nickels through 25's, as I have a couple different groups of players interested in getting some regular games going. One group would be a micro stakes learning game which would require me to have nickels, and would be unlikely to ever top out over 150 in the bank in the foreseeable future. The other would play anywhere from .25/50 - 1/2 depending on the night, probably a couple grand deep total.

The problem is, I LOVE the look of the Milanos and just keep coming back to them time after time as I look at chip options for assembling my cash set (acquired Pharaohs for tourneys). Ordered samples to completely confirm that gut feel. But, no nickels...

Majestics look great, but just behind Milanos to me.

Do we know who did the art on the Milanos to see about a nickel? Am I in such a minority that it wouldn't be feasible, etc etc?

Really what I need is just a deeper bankroll so I can do full customs, obviously... ;-)

The Milano art has been on my mind a bit recently (I think a matching dealer button GB would be pretty successful). Brybelly (Claysmith) owns the design though. Having them print matching labels in China is probably out of the question, but you might be able to get permission to have Gear or PGI do a label. Or Gear might print you labels permission not withstanding... You won't have the metallic background that the stock labels have though. Another option is to just custom print all the labels for the full set and use blanks for every denom. That takes the price up a good bit though ($20/100 chips). You could try to reach out to brybelly. Be sure to drop the phrase dealer button while you have them on the phone.

Did you receive your Milano samples? I didn't like them as much after getting my samples.

If you still like them... at least it should be easy to do a re-label. Good depth for a thin label, and lots of choice of color to use in the bigger denoms. Any of the folks who do custom labels should be able to make a very good mimic of the Milano label for your new denom.

They literally just shipped, so I should have them very soon. The look of them is just so damn top... So I think you're right, I'll likely end up re-labeling if I like the feel of them

Those are pretty damn nice, but unfortunately I just don't have the $ for true clays at the moment. I'm hoping to have a tournament and cash set I can play for a couple years. 1000 Milanos with a relabeled nickel, or 1000 Majestics, could support any game I'm likely to host in the next couple years. The same $ would barely get me a playable set of true clays. Using a blank for the nickel would work until I sort out a label. Likely the best option I have until i can stomach shelling the $ for true clays/customs

They actually emailed me back very quickly. "We could make them for you at 69 cents a chip, this includes the label and shipping, however we would not sign off on giving permission to reproduce the inlay."

So I told them that's potentially workable and injected the idea of a group buy and dealer buttons into the response.

Anyone else interested in Milano nickels? :-)

Did they give you a minimum quantity? Josh at Apache might pick up a fair amount of nickels and buttons for his store, if you're lucky.

I'm waiting to hear back on volumes and price breaks. I'll ping Josh to see if he'd be interested if I'm putting a GB together anyway. I'm not holding my breath on buttons, though, as the initial response when I asked about dealer buttons was "we don't customize the dealer button."

My first thought was, "does that mean there already is a hidden Milano themed dealer button out there?"

No, it just means they sell the crappy generic plastic buttons: https://www.brybelly.com/products.php?categoryId=1015

Yeah that's what I figured within a few seconds of the question. By the tone of the first response about using the artwork, I'm doubtful an OK would be yielded on us making a custom button

Your best best would be to design a generic button that is in a style similar to the Milano (number of good artists on the board, like p5woody). That would broaden the appeal as well, so others might jump on.

Yep. A generic dealer button. Could read any of the following:

Actually, what turned me off was the colors. I liked them online, but did not feel the same in person. My "feelings" on the colors may have been influenced by their physical feel, texture, etc., that's how feelings work - at any rate, when you have the samples in hand, you'll know if you like them!

Yep, that's the plan! If I do end up liking them, I'll put together a group buy interest thread for nickels. And coordinate a dealer button as well, having one of the talented folks here do a design that fits with the chips.
