CPC Customs or Paulson Relabels (Semi-Custom) (4 Viewers)

Hello fellow chippers,

I'm in the middle of a decision here. I have a couple of projects going on, and I'm at a crossroads. With one of my custom sets I'm working on, I'm trying to decide if CPC customs are the way to go or Paulson relabels. It's a pretty big decision to me so before making the choice, I'm wondering what everyone thinks of it. If you've created either, please share what influenced your decision to go either way. Also, please feel free to showcase your work.

As Thanos says, "we're in the end game now", and I'm pretty much stuck on this one last choice (obviously its a big deal).

While I have my idea of which way I want to go, I'd want to listen to those with experience as to what influenced their decision, and would they change anything about their decision for their sets.

I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's experiences.

You can do Paulson relabels at any time. We are in a current shit chipping market, so prices for chips to relabel could hypothetically drop more.

CPC could be near its end. I frequently call it "the true end game of chipping". It's probably cheaper than most relabel sets too, although if you intend to sell one day it is more likely than not you will eat some cost. (Please don't put your fcking name on the set .)

I may be biased, but I genuinely think this is an easy decision based on current market and CPCs pending unknown future.

Paulsons will always be around and new relabel options always seem to pop up with Chip Room sales and NAGB's.

Also - STOP MURDERING PAULSONS!!! Buy cool, old, leaded Paulson chips from closed casinos and play them as they were designed.

FYI - murder all the non-leaded THCs, NAGB chips and RHCs that you want.

I guess it all depends on what your "end-game" set is. Do you want the bright bold colors of Paulson and that certain mold, or do you want the slightly lighter but still decent color palate of CPC, but fully custom to what you've designed.. I've been in this similar boat as well for my final tournament set, but at the end of the day, I'll go CPC.

** Finding decent yellow/orange chips in quantity at my preferred pricing is very difficult, which pushes me even more toward CPC than Paulson too.

I love the feel and sound of Paulson chips, but my OCD is a label that doesn't fill in the entire recessed milled/murdered area.

Other than that, if there's a particular casino you liked that used a CPC mold that's still available, it doesn't get better than a tribute set with the same mold...

As others have stated, CPC may not be an option in a few more months. But if the color and spot patterns are more important (bright yellow, bear claw) then maybe going with the relabel set is the better decision. Having done both, it is easier to pay for a set of CPC’s than it is to murder a bunch of Paulson chips! I don’t think I would do it again unless I paid someone to do the inlay replacement, but that adds a lot of cost to the set as well.

I would go with CPC'S for the reasons stated above. Personally I love the creation aspect of designing CPC sets from the ground up. I can't get enough. I finished my first set a year ago, should get my second set before the end of the year and already have my final set submitted. I have plans down the road for two more sets if David can find a buyer and keep the business alive. I personally enjoy playing with my CPC's more than any of my Paulson sets and I get alot of compliments from my players with them as well. Good luck with your decision.

There is just something about a customized from the ground up CPC chip that puts it above even a really good semicustom Paulson.

I've made both and I personally think CPC is the way to go, and not only because clock is ticking to get an order filed.

CPC is really full custom : you really decide on everything, mold, shape of the inlays, hotstamp vs. inlay, colors, spots, ...
Also, with CPC you'll get uncirculated chips, in new condition.

Relabel project can be fun but you need to find a line-up which exactly matches your tastes. And getting Paulson (and especially THC) in mint condition can often be more expensive than CPC. And don't forget that to get high-end labels, you need to consider a good fraction of the chip price too.

I've myself went with a hotstamp Diecar set a couple of years ago and really like how it turned. Getting a similar result with Paulson would not have been possible.

Even just creating a solid tournament set. Getting mint hotstamp, considering the milling and labels would get you to higher price point than what you could have with solid CPC with an inlay.

In the end, it really depends on how much you want your set to be personal and the degree of customization required.

Struggled with the same decision last year. I really wanted to do an H Mold CPC order. Grabbed a colour sample. The sample really changed feelings, they were fine, but just not the same both in feel, and colour. Reached out to some Designers, struck out there. Banged my head against the wall with the Chip Tool at CPC. Coupled with the lead time, and cost, the decision was being made for me.

Around the same time had a chance to scoop some ES .25s and ES $1s two of my favorite chips. Never looked back, and I am super happy, as are our players.

Relabel / Murder gets my vote.
