Two quick observations between my Q3 2021 and Q1 2025 H-mold orders, both with a yellow denom:
1. Yellow:
2. Spinners:
1. Yellow:
- Baseline: There’s an ongoing wish that CPC had the vibrant TRK yellow. I love that yellow but have been really happy with the vintage CPC yellow.
- 2025: I noticed an improved brightness in my last order. I took some photos and it’s tough to really capture it, but the latest yellows are a bit brighter, not an earth shattering difference, but still pleasant. Maybe it’s less brass, maybe something else. But I wonder if CPC has been making minor adjustments in an effort to brighten the yellow.
- Photos below. The 1/4” spots are retro blue on yellow from 2021. The split spots are retro blue and maroon on yellow from 2025. The solids are 1966 TRK.
2. Spinners:
- Baseline: As noted elsewhere, there are a few posts of high spinner rates with the H-mold. Other folks have stated they never had an issue. I’m not sure it’s been established what caused it or why there are different observations.
- 2021: My set had on average an 11.5% spinner rate (84 of 731), with higher and lower ratios across the different denoms and different degrees of spinners with some really high (convex) inlays causing stacks to be really unstable. If it’s important, I can offer some additional details. Now, to be clear, I never mentioned this to David, never complained. Between the extras and my over-ordering, I’m covered and I’m fortunately in a position where it’s more of an oddity than an issue.
- 2025: After cleaning and oiling, I’ve found only 2 spinners thus far, for a 0.2% spinner rate (2 of 757). I suspect, based on my handling, that there may be at most 5 or 6 more (fewer than the extras), but they’re going to be very minor and there’s no reason to pull them out. I’m not sure if it’s just overall randomness at play or improved quality or something else, but this order is amazing in quality.
