I won't second guess, but will say that anyone considering these should absolutely make an offer. Great set, great breakdown, great opportunity to add on if need be.

Really sorry to hear of your decision, Andrew, but really happy to hear that you walked away from a collision that did that much damage.

thanks for the kind words, Scott. Unfortunately the sad reality is 3 pronged. 1. Car accident 2. Wifey/baby stuff 3. Its next to impossible to get a game going with my locals, I have these beauties sitting here collecting dust.

I'm turning 30 this September, time to let go a little bit :(

Turned 35 last year and I just started buying again. I have 3 kids with day care and child support payments monthly. Learn to love bologna and ramen. Keep the chips!

Life always finds a way to throw unwanted curveballs that make you curse Newton's 3rd law. The good news is that in the big scheme of things they're only chips, and are usually replaceable (in one form or another). While it will no doubt be a painful process, the good news is that you walked away from the accident healthy, and you're looking to have a child.

Regarding the accident, if possible you may want to shop around for another estimate unless you already have a strong relationship with this body shop. If the car isn't driveable but you have a detailed printed estimate and some photos you can get a pretty good idea just by taking that to another shop(s) to get another opinion.

Sorry to hear mate. These type of threads hit close to home as I was in a similar situation, I'm glad I changed my mind and things turned around. I'm hoping you take some time and consider keeping these and that things also turn around for you.

Andrew,

First and most importantly, I am both glad and relieved to hear that there were no serious injuries involved with your auto accident. Material things like cars can usually be replaced when damaged. People cannot.

Second, it is very clear to all here how much the Donkwoods set means to you. If you need emergency funds, I am willing to donate to help get you through this rough stretch. Perhaps selling off most of your other poker stuff makes financial and logistical sense, especially if you have upcoming life changes on the horizon. But I urge you to keep the chips -- there is no guarantee that you'd be able to replace them, and even a new set of identical chips just wouldn't be the same (and will almost assuredly be much more expensive).

I'd buy the entire lot just to hold onto them until you regain your sanity, but don't have the available poker chip funds right now. Willing to put up 10% as a temporary part-owner if @jbutler wants to spearhead the effort to keep them all in one place, to be eventually returned to you.

Good luck and best wishes going forward.

Dave, I appreciate your comments, I dont take anything for granted that this community has done for me, and has done for others, and will continue to do for others.

I would never ask to take a loan from anyone, especially in a large group...while the idea comes from a good place, it would be hard to accept.

@Payback your idea is more intriguing because it would be done through a single person, but I would want the buyer/loaner to ensure they do love this set and would be willing to keep it permanently, as I cannot predict what the future may hold.

Yes, the accident was the proverbial nail in the coffin to my situation. But with a family (hopefully) on the horizon, and the inability to garner interest to get a game also led to my decision.

I truly do appreciate everyones comments and understand that; yes, the situation stinks. I wish it were different, but it's not, and I dont see it changing in the near future.

I do plan on putting some % of the money earned from this sale, sellng my table, and other items into a poker fund and adding to it slowly each week so I can start grinding live again. I want to be able to attend @bergs and other locals games in the near future

Like everyone else, I really glad you're ok. Also like everyone else, I'd like to see you keep these. You're gonna regret selling them later. $2500 may seem like it's worth it now, but you'll earn more money.

Anyway, I'll stop badgering you about that, and respect you need to do this. It's a sad day indeed.

I'm so glad that you're ok from the accident. I'd also love to see you keep these or at least have the option to get them back one day.

@BGinGA I don't have much, and I'm not sure if it really helps, but If needed, I can contribute 2% of the amount needed for you to buy these and hold on to them till the day @manamongkids is able to buy them back.

believe it or not, i've had similar thoughts about a complete unload over the past few months. threads like this (and stocky's from a while ago) make me come to my senses. i hope everything works out for you in the end. pm coming.

Best wishes going forward. Based on your comments your a resilient person and will come out better in the end. Forward is a better direction than backwards

any local pickups of the chips will get 2 600ct birdcages with racks included. shipped transactions will only include racks, no birdcages

Was in an accident last year where I was "at fault" and my insurance is through the roof from it. Have to pay this one out of pocket, will cost more up front, but I will save in the long run with insurance payments.

Wow, I've heard insurance companies are a bit harsh in the USA. Bad luck. I hope all works out and am sure it will. Life goes on with or without the chips. I couldn't imagine selling a custom set like this though.

Welp, 'twas a good run boys. Got in a car accident this morning, towed to dealership, frame is bent and the shop is giving a large initial estimate. Even if the real number comes in at 1/2 the initial estimate, I'm still in a bind.

Completely unrelated but sorta-semi related, wife has been trying to get pregnant lately, and last night we had "the talk". Time to give up a large portion of my basement. Happy wife, happy life as they say.

I also had to cancel my TChan table, double whammy :(

I may need to take an extended break from PCF for a few months as to process all of this. I am taking a small piece of the money from this sale and put that into a PCF meet-up fund.
So sorry to hear that, hope things come together for you soon. Good luck getting pregnant. The trying is half the fun.

Good Luck
