I believe I'm to the point where I need to hire a designer to do the inlay artwork. What is the best way to go about this? Someone mentioned:

I'm hoping by adding you to the post you will see this. Is there a place where I can see each of your work? I tried viewing the media on your profile but it's hard to know which is work you designed vs other chips. If you are interested, if you could please PM your rate and some of your work then I would greatly appreciate it.

2) No idea why people here ask for $20's. $25 is always a better choice in my mind. $500 stacks for $25. If you go with $20, stacks of 20 are $400... Very hard to count! I would never use $20's over $25's.

Your Athenian Owl Club set is actually what sent me down this rabbit hole. I mean that in the highest of compliments because I love your set and the story. Like I mentioned, I was ready to pull the trigger on the Atlantic Club but I figured I would create an account here and just test the waters about creating a custom set and now it's all I can think about.

I totally get the reasoning behind 2 sets, I just wasn't sure if I wanted to go down that path since I prefer a SNG format or small MTT. However, if I'm going to hire a designer and spend the time, I might as well since it may be easier to find cash players. However, you bring up an interesting point. Sorry to keep bringing up the Atlantic Club but I LOVE the color scheme!!! I was planning on using that color scheme with maybe 1 or 2 minor color tweaks, and of course the inlay and also choose a different mold. For arguments sake, if I kept the colors the exact same and just changed the inlay would CPC allow me to order the custom set?



Fantastic advice! That's the reason I signed up and included that. I mentioned I had decided on BBO but I hadn't pulled the trigger yet. I have a lot of research to do tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing what I can create with Chanman. I hadn't stumbled across them before.

Personal experience from my point of view. You mention tournaments are your focus, as that is what you will play. I was with this same mentality, cash was pretty much an after thought. As I hosted more and more tournaments over the last couple years, we played cash afterwards. My taste have completely changed. The last month I actually quit hosting monthly tournaments and I now hold a weekly cash game.

Things that led to me changing:
-poker players are never on time
-you can reload for as long as you want to play
-not forced to make moves based on time
-cash is laid back and looser play
-can cash out anytime (I host so I play until we are done)
-show up 3 hours late, no prob

This list could go on but you get the point. It's something to think about. Enjoy the chip journey, there is no rush. Take your time and you will know when to pull the trigger when everything is answered in your head. Don't be afraid to post questions or mock ups.

Limit?? No man the $20 is the golden ticket for 25/50¢ game. Think about $100 buy in and the $20 chip gets played in a no limit cash game. It's a big bet. Its a great chip and I love my black Huntington Park $20! You can't show me a green $25 chip I'd switch too especially for the cost I got mine for.

Yes you can order the same chips as the Atlantic Club with your own inlay if you want. There are no restrictions on spot/color combos.

it’s not like Paulson chips that once they make chip for a casino that exact spot/color combo can’t be used by any other casino.

We had this problem at my game, when it was hosted at someone else’s house... When I inherited the game, I instituted a hefty on-time bonus for arriving on time. (Also a smaller bonus for reserving 24 hours in advance.) Rule was firm: If not already in the door by my watch at 7:00:00 pm, you’d be playing substantially shorter than everyone else. No exceptions.

There were some huffy moments the first couple times someone arrived at 7:01-7:30 pm and did not get the bonus. One regular turned around and didn’t play that night, because he was so pissed. But once it was clear I was going to be a hardass about the deadline, no one arrived late anymore, unless they absolutely couldn’t get there. There’s one guy who only comes if he can make it on time, but he attends more than most. We didn’t lose any players over it.

Only unexpected problem this created... People speeding like maniacs on the road between 6:55-7:00 pm.

The other thing I’ve found (and this has been discussed endlessly elsewhere) is that in our group, there are people who really only want to play tourneys. I’d say that’s about 30% of the players. I’ve tried to convert them, but it hasn’t been very successful. Guys who have learned the game playing in small tourneys sometimes are afraid of cash. Offering to host some lower-stakes games so they can get a feel for it hasn’t worked.

So we have continued with the tourney (twice a month), with cash starting for those interested once enough people have busted to get it going. I’ve been tempted to go cash-only, but it would mean the loss of some tourney regs. There’s only 1-2 guys who come solely for the cash game, and that’s mainly due to not being able to play until their kids are sound asleep. Once in a while when there happens to be three Mondays in a month, I’ll host an extra cash-only game.

On time bonuses for tournaments work great to get the game going on time. For cash games it is much harder. Unless the game is over booked where players know they have to be on time to get a seat.
