I watched about 15 minutes of tonight's action, which is the only bit I've watched. But god damn, Polk was just a bulldozer. And looking at the session stats, I see now that it was after a like 300k swing in Doug's favor. So maybe Daniel was just demoralized but it just didn't seem fair.
 
Pretty wild that once the challenge got going doug predicted he'd win 1.5 million based on Daniel's play. Pretty damn close.

Good news is also they seem to be on good terms again. Maybe some mutual respect after going the distance.

PS wtf was bill Perkins smoking on the stream? When Doug went allin with a jack high flush and he said he shouldn't. Wat. Lol.

I think Matusow’s poker instincts are still good enough for him to survive at most live hold em tables. But even if the man could speak comprehendible English, he’s in no position to critique or coach NLHE in 2021.

Maybe he wrongly thought Daniel’s line was so polarized that Doug no longer beats 50% of Daniel’s calling range

In his defense, when facing a large river IP I’ve seen them both opt for river calls instead of river raises with strong hands that I thought for sure would be in the jam for value range

Although true, there seemed to be many more spots where Daniel called river bets with strong hands where it seems like a raise was in order. He missed a ton of value on quite a few hands IMO.

One of the many reasons he lost 1.2 mil
 
It's really too bad that Doug is burnt out and unwilling to take on another opponent. I had a lot of fun watching them battle. Given how successful this was on streaming platforms, I'm hopeful there will be other NL challenges in the near future.

I did. Polk is still a dick. DNegs is a baby. BUT that money prolly means more to Polk than it does to DNegs. So who's the real winner?
 
Also, if dnegs didn't care, why was he losing his mind during the post match interviews?
 
Hearing Doug last night talk about his team with spreadsheets and reporting blew my mind. I'm an accountant and see less data than what he was listing off lol.

It would be interesting to see to see how much Polk picked up in side bets (and how much Dnegs lost).

Not so LOLZ though. Dnegs was in a no lose, situation. He got a lot of credit for just accepting the challenge. The only way he lost was by complaining so much about how unlucky he was and throwing his f-bomb rages. He went head to head in a game he was supposed to lose and lost $1.2M (and like it or not, he did get the shorter end of the luck draw). If Dnegs somehow had won... Polk would look like an absolute clown. Things just went the way they were supposed to go. No big deal.

Was mildly entertaining to listen to in the afternoons, so I guess we won!

What video was that? Can you link it?

I haven't been following any of the videos after the first week. I'm excited to see the summary videos, I'm sure a few will be out there.

I looked real quick and the web has so much crap on it regarding the match that I couldn't find it quickly. It's only one aspect, but it's one of the few we can see. When there's an all in and a call (so we saw their cards) Dnegs ran cold to the percentages when the money got in, I wanna say to somewhere in the ballpark of $200K to $300K.

There is no way for us to tell any other part of "Luck" because we didn't get to see their cards. So this is by no means "Polk is a luckbox and Dnegs is obv. better" but Polk was luckier in one of the only ways that was quantifiable.

I think you are talking about all in EV. There was someone tracking that for DNegs. Yeah that number would way lower at the end of the challenge. Id say closer to 100K. It still doenst account for the other $1M he lost though so I think the point is kind of moot.

Edit. The final All in EV numbers have been tallied and the range you quoted was correct. -$256.8K. Still down around $950k if you want to adjust for that.
