Demystifying Faded Spade 3.0 (2 Viewers)

I really like the artwork and it’s great in the Shuffle tech, but shuffling and self dealing them…they are way too stiff.
Yep, only reason we don't use them anymore. We'd always have a couple players spilling the whole deck.

Love the feel, love the look, love that they offered a 4 color deck. The disdain here doesn't add up for me.

I don't see it. We couldn't even get enough of commitments for a custom run of smooth Dal Negro stock a couple of years back for a MOQ of 500 decks of each color. Baffles me how we got enough for Justin to keep doing runs, my guess is that the cost made it feasible.

If we're going to do a custom cards GB, I'd hit up Copag in Belgium, with Cartamundi casino face art.
Partly because Justin didn’t give us that many choices - he asked a few color questions, then had them made. And although he took preorders, he for sure made up the difference on his own, to get to the next discount level. That’s how you have to do it.

The guy who attempted the dal negro buy gave us WAY too many choices - there was no way we would ever make a consensus with all those choices.
And I can’t speak for everybody, but once some of my choices were eliminated as he tried to gain a consensus, I spite-quit.

I agree with all of this. Justin goes about it the right way. Take it or leave it, this is what I'm offering.

And my two cents on 3.0 - they’re fine. I hate the brand. And the 3.0s are stiffer than I prefer. But I played a session with them and they’re fine.

i don’t own that setup though (because i hate the brand) so I can’t speak to their longevity. I will back up whoever said that any brand can warp or bow. I once purchased a setup of bowed copags from another PCFer, and I’ve seen them bow in cardrooms too.
Personally I just keep the cards in whatever case they came in, and I’ve had very few problems (with the exception of KEM, which requires the additional step of upside down, cut card, button.)

That's my big problem with the 3.0's. They bowed with only 10 minutes of shuffling and pitching. The stock felt fine to me.

This is really a shuffling technique issue. Once I figured out how to shuffle better, the stiffness issue went away. But they aren't, IMHO, the best "card feel" in the hand.
Their unjustified hype was the part that put me off forever, so I don't buy. I like the Desjgns if I need to use 4-colour.

Yes the Desjgns 4 colors are nice.

Our go to at the moment are the Aristo's, but will need something to switch too soon (If we can't buy more) as only 1 Blue deck in decent shape.

I’m still curious what they would charge for a minimum run of setups. The design would be the same except for the back color, which is like a 15-second switch, so I don’t know if they’d insist on two full orders.

As far as consensus goes, it is obviously going to be impossible to get all on the same page. The disagreements on poker vs bridge size, jumbo vs standard index, two- vs. four-color alone are bad enough and you haven’t even debated back design or typographical choices yet…

Probably someone with the cash to do a run could do just as well just coming up with a great design, running it past a few trusted members, and taking a flyer on the print run. Cards don’t really go bad, if stored decently, AFAIK, so even if it took years to sell out that would be OK. And maybe you’d have a hit on your hands.

I may just try to get some samples of their various stocks…

Digging around their website, I notice that Kuo Kao will produce custom cards, paper or plastic, in six different thicknesses and at least two different finishes:

https://www.kkplayingcard.com/en/product-c159287/Custom-Playing-Cards.html

“Kuo Kau Paper Products provides full customized service where you can design your own and unique 54 card graphics from front to back to achieve the best advertising performance; or you can also use our semi-customized service, with your own illustration as card back pattern, and choose from over 20 different design templates of international card games for the card face. Our templates including standard index, four-corner index, jumbo index for elderly players, and European language suits such as German, French, Russian and Spanish playing cards.”

It appears (if I’m reading this correctly) that the minimum order is 1,008 decks per design, so if you wanted setups it would be double that?

I could see a PCF group buy if enough people could agree on sizing etc.
I was speaking to a KK agent for a while. I can send you his details if you're interested. I personally couldn't grab ahold of the correct stock but you might be a better sweet talker than me!

This photo was taken at the resorts world this past summer. IDK what version these are though but you can see where there's a gap between the middle of the AT cards and the table. BTW I'm only guessing these are FS since it's on their web site they supply cards to RW.View attachment 1228470

The artwork here doesn't look like FS to me.
