Disappointing classifieds sale (1 Viewer)

I recently sold 140 chips in good used condition for a very fair price of $200 shipped. I also put in the effort to make sure they were solidly packed and arrived safely with the buyer. So far so good, and happy to have given someone a decent deal on rare chips.

Within a couple of weeks of receiving the shipment, the buyer, in turn, relisted 100 of the chips for essentially double the previous sale price. Not only that, but he did not even provide a description of the chip condition. We’re talking about chips that are generally found in near mint condition, and at the new asking price one would generally expect to be getting excellent condition chips. I can guarantee that is not the case here.

After almost a month of bumping the sale thread, the chips sold to a relatively new member. I expect the buyer will not be overjoyed upon receiving the package.

This has been said before and it will be said again, but I’m just going to vent: this kind of thing is disappointing to see. Flipper guy, you know who you are. Next time you get a good deal but don’t need all the chips, consider passing on some of the value of your deal to another PCFer, rather than going for profit.

Not surprising based upon some previous history. Pickup a great deal outside PCF and release it into the community at a fair price? - great. Taking advantage of a member’s generous deal only to profit from other members, especially with shady descriptions? F that.

One of those weird situations where it’s hard to put standards on everything.

If I had connections and I was able to get custom Paulsons at $1.x a chip, I certainly would not sell it to the PCF community for my cost. I’d certainly want a nice margin, because I’m the one with the connection and got it done.

If I just bought some chips from another member for below market value or as some sort of goodwill gesture, I certainly also would not flip it immediately for a profit.

Lastly if I held my chips for a long time and it just so happens the market value for them went up, I’d sell it at market value. For example, I bought Noir’s new for $1.x/chip but held it for 10 years and sold at $3.25/chip. I see no harm in that.

So it’s just a weird situation where there’s not a one size fits all standard.

Not to mention the boat chips are being sold minty fresh and the OP is actively claiming the reseller is misrepresenting the quality of these chips.

The prices of chips have become so high that these transactions are less about community and more about profit. There’s too much money involved these days. It’s human nature and it sucks, but I understand it.

...and horseshoes or anything else. Flippers have a green light at PCF or anywhere else I guess. It is up to the sellers to give deals to those they trust to pay it forward.

Let me provide that situation. Let's say we have a member we'll call "Strawjack". Let's say we get along well and have made deals via PM several times. He sells me a rack of coveted Moopes 1s at 1500 bucks. Then they go up in value to 2000 or much more in a auction feeding frenzy....but I have another friend, nasal45 who has helped me before and would love to have those chips. That friend will get every opportunity to buy them at 1500. Otherwise they would get sold for 2000+ in a classified ad. Price absolutely depends on the buyer to me. I'd say 75% of the chips I've sold have never been "listed"...we are talking about tens of thousands of chips....

Chip karma is very real to many people here. Others operate as business people without regard to anything but the bottom line. That is what differentiates a chipper from a flipper for me.
