I care not who buys my stuff! I will however add a tax to the handful of baby boys I’ve encountered on here that ran their mouth in the past.
I call it a “lame tax”. It’s lame that I have to tax a fellow chipper because they are so lame. jk I have never done that but it’s a good idea!
But I think the people who are not my fans wouldn’t even buy from me anyways so it’s not really something I have to deal with.
As far as profit goes I think a lot of us came into the hobby with the hopes of flipping some chips we got our hands on. I started here with 400 singles in frames that I paid $500 for. Thought I was gonna get paid! Didn’t happen on that deal!
Once people see that the
eBay prices aren’t always what people are really paying, they either dig in and start the long road of learning chipping or they dip out after they find out that they aren’t sitting on a gold mine.
Poker chips to me is as big a hobby to me as poker itself. Maybe bigger. I see my chips as a currency also. If I go out on a limb and buy some pricey chips that I decide to keep, then I can sell some of my other chips to cover the new chips.
If I like the new chips I can keep ‘em. If I don’t like them I list them for what I paid and if I only get that price, oh well. That’s in the wash for me. My time and effort isn’t so valuable that I HAVE to make a profit. For some people the time and effort in all this isn’t even worth selling any chips. It’s all about what you value your time.
I am in the position now to buy chips and if I have no use for them I can move them to someone who does. If that someone wants them bad enough and I make a profit that’s great but getting them to a fellow chipper is just as appealing to me. I really like the auction route for chips I think a lot of people want. Or they are cheap and a new chipper has a chance to “get in on the action”.
I sold some things straight up for sale and a few people were bummed that they couldn’t dibs because of time zones and such. Auctions gives everyone a chance especially the dudes who have lives and aren’t on PCF all day (like me).
And rescuing them from a closet or attic somewhere is very rewarding for me.
With a deal like the Scandias my intention was to sell them immediately. The purchase for those was not cheap like most of the marketplace chips I buy. I knew I would at least make my money back on the Scans and that was imperative. How high they went was unknown. It was a freeroll once I started the auctionand I got a 550 chip set of elephant molds for free out of the deal.
Since I did make a lil profit and the wife is happy, I am now able to go and buy more sets that I can auction and get out onto your guys tables. I’m not selling on
eBay to maximize profits. I’m selling to my buddies who like the same, niche, weird-o hobby as me.
Like I said before the action is the juice for me. I could buy 2 sets a year and then just chill. That isn’t very fun. I have more fun digging around for chips, meeting people/ hearing stories. Then getting bored with chips and selling them, getting more chips etc.
By my code I have to sell to anyone that wants them. Even if the buyer is a known lame I still get satisfaction knowing that he got the chips he wanted and I facilitated the deal. For some sick reason I like the idea of an enemy playing with my chips. Kinda bittersweet or something..
And like Omar said on The Wire:
