Today I hosted a game using a brand new set of chips I just bought. After the game, I noticed one of my $5 chips was missing.

(Some people have asked: It was a sit-n-go, not a cash game.)

I looked around everywhere and am quite sure it didn't just get dropped on the floor or misplaced. I also recounted all my chips a few times. I'm pretty certain one of my players decided to pocket it and take it home as a souvenir.

Does this happened to you all frequently?

I host games that sometimes include shady people I don't know well. Usually, in conversation, someone reveals the general value of my chips, often to the bewilderment of the newcomers. With that said, I've never had one chip taken from me (knock on wood).

If you are certain someone pocketed your chips, you need to find new players or vet the current pool more closely. It's an expensive hobby and people need to respect your shit.

Never happened to me. Did you email your players about it and ask if someone has it accidentally?

I've never had a chip go missing. I've lost chips from time to time, just to find them later under the radiator or something. But no one has ever pocketed a chip from one of my games.

And as @BGinGA already pointed out... if some one pocketed a $5 chip, you'd be $5 heavy in your purse. Was your dollar count off at the end of the night?

Also - check your racks and barrel counts...

The last time I thought I lost a chip it was because I was using crappy chip racks that didn't fit the chips well, and one barrel had one chip too many in it. It was likely jammed in there by a non-chipper helping clean up at the end of the night. And it took some one from this forum pointing out the possibility until I finally found it.

This.. I’d offer that many have discussed here having chips go missing, only to find them under furniture, etc... or someone accidentally pocketin* them during a table move. But ultimately, if the bank ain’t off, it’s likely misplaced in a rack somewhere

Cash game? If so, your bank should be $5 heavy if somebody took the chip home (accidentally or intentionally).

Sit-n-go. Yeah if it was a cash game it's a lot easier to catch. And my suspicion is it was the winner, who thought it would be fun to bring home a chip after he won as a souvenir.

I'm hoping it's just some dumb mistake on my part, but I did check and recheck all my racks, and I know exactly how many $5 chips I have (or had). :(

Because it's a brand new set, I was being pretty attentive to them. I started racking and counting as soon as the game broke.

Hasn't happened in our game, and we have been playing every week for nearly three years. If a chip were to somehow find its way into a player's pocket every week, we would be forced to call in re-enforcement

If you're convinced some one took it home, the best approach is to send out an email to attendees informing them of the missing chip. I'd advise against taking an accusatory tone in this email - just notify folks of the missing chip, ask them to check pockets, etc., and to kindly return it to you if found.

yeah, people like @inca911 are chip thieves!!!!!!!!!

Funny story - as what happens at meet ups, people change tables and sets. Sometimes chips get put in pockets or in other places and surface later. I'm missing several PCA 5s after the Divide...fuck!! It was crazy busy getting chips packed up and such. Then Forrest sends a message...seems he pocketed a few when helping with chip chores. So I'll get them back when he comes next year.

I think the most funny episode was when @courage sent a message to the membership asking those to check their chip boxes and such as he was missing some CC 20s...then Harley listed them for sale shortly after....same same. Harley brought sets to use and some of the CC chips ended up in his box.

Bottom line. - games get busy. Rack your tournament chips right after the tournament and you'll probably find missing chips then. Cash chips are more easy when the bank has a surplus.

Note to any people attending my cash games. - you are welcome to keep any denoms over $25. Enjoy the expensive souvenir.

Hahahahaha yeah keep the hundos

Had a few shifty players take a chip, caught one one time, he no come back. My core group is solid. If a chip is missing it is usually taken home in a pocket unknowingly. We had a west coast chiptalk meetup and one of my PCA's went missing, but we had a lot of non members there, so that was the likely problem.

I thought I had somebody walk away with 2 once, which REALLY PISSED ME OFF because I open up my house to a core group of players every week.

As it turns out, one of the players tipped my son $2 for running him a couple drinks. Unfortunately, my son has no idea what he did with them. I tore his room and the house apart with no luck.

Moral of the story...DON'T TIP WITH MY CHIPS DAMN IT!!:D

I lost quite a few the last charity poker tourney I ran.... a couple were broken, while a few went missing. Checked everywhere but they were not around. These were from my Aztar set. Next event coming in January, I will have cheaper chips to use (plus I dumped most of my Aztars anyways)

Never lost a chip. Have had a few break over the years but that is rare.

Closest I came was a guy chipping up to the table max so he put the $20 or so in extra chips in his pocket. He then forgot about it until the end of the night when the bank was over and I was short chips. Everyone checked pockets and they were found.

After that I would just let someone put the extra $20 on the table unless someone made a stink about it.

Footage of what happened last time someone tried...

Email the gang, maybe say something very unaccusing like "maybe someone was using it as their card guard and at the end of the night pocketed it thinking it WAS their card guard"?

I also thought once someone pocketed a chip. Sent similar message. Eventually I was whole again. Don't know if they gave the chip back or if it was misplaced by me though.

So many other people here found their chips later that I would not create a big fuss over it unless it happens again.

You don't wanna be bitching to a friend about a friend they brought over. Can make things awkward.

This is my only concern using live Bellagio $1s in my set is that people will take them as souvenirsX Thankfully I know where I can get more haha, but it will be a pain getting mint chips to match.

A while back I made some funny "year of the donkey" chips with my regular's faces on them. As expected a few of them were taken home with them. No biggy and not exactly the same situation.
