That's gorgeous man... what starting stacks and player count do you typically have? Im I the only one that can appreciate Paulsons and also appreciate a nice set of cc? am I alone? I think I'll prolly order 8 racks of dune and another nice pelican style case on amazon and be done with this. Play some nice cash games and continue the quest for Paulson.

Thanks. You're not alone, I have zero problems with CC chips, I'm just more of a minimalist and not someone that feels a drive to have a ton of different sets to pick from each game, so I decided on the Paris stuff for now, which will some day get phased out when I order a custom CPC cash set.

As for stacks and players, it's single table so anywhere from 5-10; we usually play .25/.25 with $25 initial max buy-ins, so it's easy to do either 20x .25 and 20x $1, or 16/16/1x $5 if we have a more full table of 9 or 10. We don't use the dimes at all, though when I first bought the set we were doing .10/.25 before getting annoyed at the weird bet sizes and just flatting out the blinds. There's an extra rack I have not shown that's a bunch more dimes, a few more quarters and $25s, so there's a lot of flexibility in the set. Again, big fan, but just don't need multiples.

Also, Apache is definitely selling the beveled edge china clay Dunes, not the plastics or the earliest flat edge china clay's with" commemorative" on the label. Apache does seem to have some old/confusing pictures floating around.

To further confuse, Apache has sold out on consecutive production runs of these chips. Therefore, Apache has had several large orders filled for resale to people like us. There has been at least one slight color variation. I am aware of the 25¢ chip shifting from a coral to a more pink color. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of - different production runs. See pic below.

At 50¢ per chip for new or 35¢ for used, Dunes CCs are tough to beat.

Ya man, for sure. I could play with those. You say you bought them in 2013 right? I heard the newer ones shipping now are slightly different with grey spots instead of blue on the 5s and we'll just say brown spots on the 100s instead of orange (its' subtle) You can see by the photo below where there is one new 5 and one new 100 hiding in the stack of chips along with the older ones. I'm thinking the the stack below are just one generation apart from newest duller spots to the generation right before that one with bluer and oranger spots.

tbh I do prefer a more pink chip that coral so current production pink should satisfy. I tell you what.... It's not the best strategy to buy what you need and order more later does it. Seems to pay to just order more than you need all at once so at least all your chips match. Even my pharaoh's I bought everything all at once but recently picked up another tray of 100s just to make things easier with 15 people to color up. The chips arrived and 20 barely fit into the rack cause the thickness was a little more with the latest Pharaoh's. I ordered mine about 5 years ago so not a huge change but not crazy about the variability in stack height. My OCD lol.

I'd love to see your Paris set. I'd love to see what your'e playing with now. We sound like we have a similar value system... I tend to buy quality the first time but I'm a minimalist for sure. When I end up with the perfect Paulson set in the future I'll most likely just keep the dunes set for when my son wants to borrow chips for a home game with his friends.

Some used Paulson sets or even BCC sets for $0.75- $1.25 / chip that would be a significant improvement. Even the Gemaco Tropicanas are a few rungs higher in my mind for the same or less money.

The Dunes are okay, but the sound and feel really put me off of them. Even BRPro ceramics for the slight bump in price are quiet a bit nicer in my eyes. China Clay never did it for me and I'm happy I avoided them.

It looks like they’ve got you covered, but I was just jumping in to reaffirm that Josh from Apache is a great guy to deal with and if there’s something confusing about the website, I’d feel 100% confident that I’d get the right info from him directly. Deal with confidence.
 
These are awesome. missed out on @NotDunric semi-customized set last night (had 10c chips w gear labels) I'm hunting for them in the .25 and 1 denominations as those aren't in stock on the apache sight. I emailed them trying to find out if they were going to get more in but haven't heard back yet!

If you want the Dunes with sharp edges, then you definitely want the ones that say "commemorative" at the top of the label. They're plastic, and I believe they were made by Nexgen.

Here is a post from someone selling sample sets. I bought one and they are cool chips. If Apache no longer sells them, then I think Spinettis does.

Maybe you don’t count the plastic but all those were running around here together at one point and it was easy to get them mixed up or buy the cheap plastic one. I had a friend who did that and he regrets it to this day.

V1 china clays (TCR) had all round labels (with "Commemorative"), but different spot patterns.

V2 china clays (Apache) were the same as V1 without the "Commemorative" text, plus a couple of new spot/color combos and a new $20 chip.

The injection-molded plastics (TCR) had faux-shaped labels (with "Commemorative" text) and all shared the same 4T314 spot pattern.

All three were made on a replica Dunes house mold.

Plus the two original Dunes variations, made by Paulson -- 39mm with shaped inlays and 43mm Baccarat chips with mostly round inlays.
 
I have a playable set of casino Paulsons but they are lost on my group of non chippers... I was strongly considering this set back in the day, lovely photos. I may have to pick some up.

I personally understand that there are two camps regarding oiling CC chips, but from experience, I'm all for oiling. IMHO, oiling removes the production dust and creates a lasting color brightening effect. As mentioned, this is my second Dunes set and the oiling results were outstanding the first time around.

Whether oiled or not, Dunes CC's are a top sub-$1 per chip option.

Anyone know if oiling makes them slide more or less? I’ve been using pharaoh’s un-oiled for about 3 years of monthly home games and they slideeeeee when stacked. More than my new majestic understandably since the majestic are new. If I oil them will they stack better or slide even more? Curious.

My 100s slide like crazy, but after a game of use my 0.25s 1s and 5s have become much more stable. I’ve heard oiling when done just a little bit helps with smoothness, I’ve also heard of people using a super high grit sandpaper and doing a once over on slick chips. Fair warning, I haven’t tried any of these but I’ve seen a lot of suggestions
