Hey folks,
Not sure where I should post this so I'll just put it here. How long do you wait for a buyer to pay for an auction on eBay? Sale ended on Feb 4th. There was some initial communication immediately following sale bit since then nothing.
How long do I wait to do something?

Anything more than 1 day is rude. I would cancel after 1 week and several attempts.

He should pay right after the auction or a day later at the most. If no communication. Report to eBay and provide bad feedback and relist the item. You may have an option to sell it to the next person down but I am not sure.

Pretty sure the eBay rules say 3 days but I could be wrong. I pay right away or send a seller a message explaining why I can't beforehand, but obviously not every is honest and upstanding.

0 feedback on buyer, which did make me worry but I hoped that it was just the beginning for him. He did identify himself as a forum member, so I was hoping that that was going to make it a non issue.
I've emailed 2 through eBay and once through here.
I sent another email through eBay today and will wait another day, then try and contact eBay.

Well of he is a member here too he is ruining his rep on both sites.

Yeah I always pay literally within 30 sexconds of the auction ending. To me, proper etiquette would be no more than 24 hours.

I'd fire off one last email saying just a friendly reminder that I'm still waiting on your payment and please pay within 48 hours or I will have to cancel and relist.

You never know. He/she could have had a work or family emergency and totally spaced it. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. If they have a 98% or higher rating, then I cut em a little slack if they're delayed in sending me payment but you're approaching a week so that's pushin it...

screw that guy, sell here. If over 3 days and no pay, I'd open a ticket.

Yeah 0 feedback is a red flag but we all had to start somewhere. Hopefully since he's a member here, something just came up.

You need to file a claim for a non paying bidder right away. eBay will send them a message and you must wait 3 days from the time you contacted eBay. If you don't file it now you will have to wait for 3 days after you finally decide to get your money back. Remember you can't relist until the case is closed. Get it started now.

^^^^^^ yes all this above, you can still try to contact the buyer but before eBay does anything they wait the 3 days..then it can go quick, sucks, i never had any non payers in over 100+ sales and when i buy or win an auction i pay immediately, alot of Buyer i had paid within minutes....if you do any Buy It Now deals, eBay requires that Buyer pay instantly to validate it...good luck you will be fine....give us a hint what the item was...we may hope your Buyer doesnt pay if its a deal !!!(y)

Thanks Potsie, I was thinking that. I'm gonna give him another 24 hours. Maybe he sees this thread too and it nudges him in the right direction.
Tommorow is D day though

Item was the Pyramid Casino 5s

saw em. great you had alot of bidders so you should be able to let the next highest bidder get them....i would not wait to open a claim, it puts no marks against you or the buyer becaus esometimes there may be a legitimate reason but whatever works for you

That's not true.

are you sure?? ok maybe if you are buyin multiple items from the same seller? but when I sell something with BIN i think it is an option of the Seller?? pretty sure i click some box for it but yeah maybe the multiple item thingy is there so you can combine all the deals...is that it?

i think it is up to the seller to click that box to require instant payment on BIN

One important point why you should input the claim right now is the buyer doesnt know what youre doing. eBay doesnt send a nasty email. It simply reminds them they won and auction and the seller would like to be paid. Thats it. They have no clue you did anything.
Second point is just because you opened it doesnt mean you have to close it. You have up to thirty days to close the claim. If you file it now you can still give him as much time as you like. You arent forced to close it after 3 days. Give him thirty days if you feel like it but file the claim now and get the electronic paperwork going. :)

I believe this is correct. Some BINs require that I pay immediately, others do not. I always figured it must have been a seller option.

Exactly right. There are two ways. One is you check the box when making the listing with a Buy It Now. The second is if you offer combined shipping eBay forces the buyer to first add items to their cart and second Buy It Now as the items remain available until the full purchase has been made.

Unpaid item case open.
First time through this.

Cool. Theres no risk in doing this. You can still give him as much time as you like. After 3 days you now will have the choice to move on as soon as you feel like it.

Yes, that's correct.

Do I divulge the name of forum member?

What could be gained from such a reveal? If your primary objective is to sell your chips, will deliberately instigating more drama further that goal?

Buyer has responded to email. He's not going to buy them. Before I second chance offer the next person on he auction, does anyone on forum want these at 215Less 25 the final auction price ?
If so I'd just cancel the listing.
