i contacted this poster and received the attached photos. It appears they expect $15-$20 per chip for these, but I could never get a price from them.

Very nice chips, very cool set, one-of-a-kind perhaps? I like the 10/- pre-decimalization chip. Most people will say "WTF is that?"

Talked to this guy (his name is Lee) months ago on Facebook. Was about to close the deal for a fair price, then he found a chip on eBay for $20 and turned into a huge douchebag. He was blowing up my phone with bullshit (trying to sell other stuff) for days, then said he sold the set for $7000. I told him there are only a handful of sets that command that pricetag and that I don't believe that anyone I know would pay that. I also told him that I have chips worth $1 each in bulk, but maybe $10-$20 individually.

I was honest in that I never saw them moved in bulk and that they were great chips. I just couldn't see him going much below $5-$7 a chip. Good luck to anyone to wants to give it a shot. He's a weird bird.

For those who don't know and don't feel like looking it up, prior to decimalization, there were 20 shillings in a pound (and 12 pence in a shilling). So a 10/- is half a pound. It is a 50-pence chip (decimalized).

Not understanding your British math. The 10 is half a pound so by your math 20/2=10 shillings×12 pence= 120 pence not 50 pence???

Just FYI...He is still asking $7,000 for the 400 chip set. No wonder it is still floating around after all that time. I am from that area and he reconfirmed that ridiculous asking price.

All before my time, but you can see why they changed it!

Cracking chips in the OP. Would love to have a set. Paulsons or Christy & Jones?

Playboy Club in London opened in '65. Decimalization took place in '71. The chips were made in that narrow window.

That time frame would make them C&J chips, produced by Burt Co. The appearance of the spots also confirms this.

Yep, he offered to sell me the set for $6,000 about 3 weeks ago. He cited the eBay price of $20 per chip. I tried to explain to him that he might be able to get two or three dollars a chip if someone really wants the set. His response was that his father used to play poker with these chips with Hugh Hefner and that they are a collector's item. I told him he's dreaming if he thinks he's going to get that much, and that if they're so famous he should take them to an auctioneer. He told me that he is it no rush to sell them. I simply replied with "fold".

What a douche!

He tried to give me the same explanation to justify his outrageous price. He will be sitting on those for a long time with his mindset. No wonder he has been sitting on them for years!!

when he dies, his kid will try selling them for $10k because his dad said they were worth 20/each in 2017 and now you have to calculate for inflation, durr

It's like all the guys telling me their 50c Kings Castle chips were worth $30 this summer. Say thanks for your time, and move on.

I asked how much for the chips and got this short reply

"7k"

Sounds like he is going to be a chip owner, not a chip seller  :ROFLMAO:

I raise your guinea by one crown and a hapenny.

...and if you haven't got a ha'penny, then God bless you.

I actually found this PDF when doing my research. Looks like they were from 1966 and never put in play

Pretty sure I have this chip...

...will consider offers starting at $700.

Someone should point this forum out to him. Maybe the fact that we are all making fun of him will bring him to reason.

Here's the exchange between me and the seller. Note, we spoke a ton a few months back to try to close the deal, so he knows me. He never responded after my last message.

Lee,

Your listing popped up and is visible to the international poker chip collecting community. I know you've gotten interest, as I know the people who are showing that interest.

If you want to unload in one shot, you won't likely get offers for more than $1000, and even that is a perfect scenario. Most would want to offer $1, maybe up to $2 each if they are from England and that club is special to them.

If you want to sell one chip at a time, go on eBay and list them for $10 each. There are a lot of single chip collectors who would love a chip. However, if you asked them to take 400 chips, realize they wouldn't pay more than $1-$2 a chip in bulk.

You need to drop that $7k price. It is a pipe dream and will never happen. You are dismissing legitimately interested folks by throwing out that price.

Good luck man. I hope you can maximize profit on that estate sale.

Regards,
Dan

Thanks.. But I've already been offered 4k... Sight unseen! He was ready to drive here from out of state with cash! .. But I'm In no rush.. You guys are a blast.. Everyone wants to tell me that they aren't worth much.. But yet more than 30 guys have contacted me trying to buy them..they are talking about them on the chip sites.. You obviously know that.. So do I... I don't need to sell them any time soon.. I'll. Just hang on to them if no one wants to bump up the bet to a realistic price.. Meanwhile, everyone is bluffing with very entertaining stories ! Gotta love it .. They are being sold right now on eBay for 15 to 22 dollars per chip..sold sales! Not asking price.. Actually sold... And that's still not a complete set with all of the denominations I have....ill sell them sooner or later for a fair price.. Or I'll just hold on to them and enjoy the plethora of emails of everyone telling me that aren't worth much!

I'm glad you are getting interest.

I mean this with all sincerity. If you get a legit offer for more than $1000 for the set, please take it. I'm not positioning this for my friends as I know what they would want to pay (not even that much), I'm really thinking about your best interest. You seemed like a good guy and I want you to maximize your profit. Sell them individually on eBay to get the most. You may even get $15 each, which would take you to $6000. Pain in the ass to piece out, but worth it since you are in no rush. Selling as a set, regardless of how cool it is, is not the way to go. It's not a diamond that carries more value intact.

Anyway, good luck with everything man.
