Faux pelican cases at Sam's (1 Viewer)

This is the one I bought.

You do not want the third layer to be pick and pluck or else the racks will be sitting on plastic.

Edit: Also just checked mine and only one layer in mine was pick and pluck. No big deal though, I get over 1000 chips in mine.

Mine has three layers, I was going to keep the bottom solid layer and pick the top two so that my racks are surrounded by foam on all sides. As it is now I'm trying going to fit 1200 chips in it. It should be fine because the stacked racks sitting on the top of the foam layer are tall enough that the egg foam up top will hold the chips in. But the second layer of racks is relying on the top down force to keep them in place, I'd rather they were also surrounded by foam on all sides...I think.

Thats funny, You got a bonus layer of pick and pluck! I checked and it says two of the layers are solid.

Anyway they still have some in stock at one of my local stores. On sale and just slightly over $30

Oh no, I'm saying that only one of my layers is pick and pluck, sorry if that wasn't clear. I wanted to buy another standalone layer (to replace one of the solid layers) if anyone knows of a good reasonably priced option.

Alternatively if someone knows of a good way to cut this stuff up...I made a mess of the foam I tried to cut with a box cutter the other day. I'm sure my technique could use some work.

I have seen an electric knife work. Go on youtube and they have some videos there on using an electric knife

I have an electric knife set for table rail foam, and it’s the only way to cut foam well,,, for a non electric option, a straight edge sucks, you need a very fine tooth blade, and very fine movements (rapid sawing motion). Draw the pattern on the foam with a sharpie first, and cut.

My knife setup, and an example of a clean cut (electric) vs a cleanish cut (non electric).

Contact the manufacturer/seller and see what else they have available.

1200 chips fit quite well in this bad boy.

Would you all recommend that I keep this stored flat as pictured, or should it be fine to have it sitting upright (handle up top)?

I store mine upright filled with chips. Your layout should be fine, too.

Mine is stored flat (on a deep bookshelf), but carried upright (obviously). Never had shifting of contents occur.

How do you think this case would work for 1 layer of 600 chips? Eyeing this for my cash set
A bit of an overkill for just one layer, but it will work fine..... and the price is right.

Just leave both lower foam pieces intact. And you will have room for expansion.

Yea it does seem a bit huge. I can’t dig up any of the 16” models though anywhere.

Thanks! Been planning on picking up another one of these; even better at a discounted price. Heading over this afternoon.

I've bought 5 of these storage boxes and are an incredible deal at $30/per. Even with the 10% additional non-member price added, they are a steal and shipping is very reasonable.

Non-member price = $32.88 + around $5 to ship

Totally agree. Certainly heavier than a 1000-chip carrier, but infinitely safer for transporting chips, or even static storage for very valuable sets.

I now own Members Mark 16" (=Pelican 1450), 20" (=Pelican 1520), 44" (=Pelican 1720) & the new 24" (=Pelican 1600) cases. I also own a 1510 Pelican branded case. While the foam set is certainly better in the Pelican, I can't justify paying the huge price markup for the Pelican when there is a MM equivalent IMO. Beside you can buy the corresponding Members Mark case and a replacement Pelican foam set if you wanted it and still come out cheaper than the Pelican.

Is the new 24" MM case the one with wheels?

Yes I just got mine yesterday. had to have it shipped wasn't available as a "pick up in store" item.

It is huge (dwarfs the Pelican 1510) should hold even the largest set but the wheels and handle make it pretty awesome. Haven't had a chance to measure out chip layout yet or take any pics.
Please post when you do. I'd be interested to know if it can handle 1600 chips in racks.

Finally got around to setting up my case. I decided to only put 500 chips per case and will be picking up a second one this week since they are on sale. This way each case will weigh less and there will be extra padding. Why not spend the extra $50 for a case to protect several thousand dollars worth of chips!
