Having every chip with the same base color looks cool in mockups, but is a very bad idea for actual play.
I could see that being a problem I did really only think about the looks to be honest. I appreciate the expertise.

You'll end up with huge problems with dirty stacks, and it will be hard to count the pot. Easily distinguishable base colors, and non-repeating spot colors are preferred. Even better if you can use easily distinguishable spots as well, but less important.

You may also want to add color to the printed denominations on the chips. It's best to print the labels at real size, to see how easily readable they are.

Agree with Beaker. Too hard to read denominations. Black base your all your chips is a bad idea. Not enough color differential between all your chips.

How about different patterns of that same graffiti style on each chip? add color to the middle?

Love the inlay idea, except the denomination is a little hard to read. Having every chip with the same base color looks cool in mockups, but is a very bad idea for actual play.
It's not just a little hard to read, it is hard to read. It should be changed somehow. Maybe make a white circle around the denomination so it is more readable or something. Idk, it's too complicated & detailed for the inlay on a chip. Sorry, but to me it is just a big mess...

No offense

What do you think makes it hard to read the denomination the font, the background, or the black brush stroke?

Also I was thinking about incorporating color into the design, but couldn't decide how to and what colors to use. Let me know what you think more on this color idea.

Looking at the what you designed has a great idea overall. Having the same base colors like others mentioned will bring some problems and I highly recommend going for different colored chips like all the other chip sets you've probably seen.

To speak about the inlay I like the idea, it's something I haven't seen before. The problem with it is that its a bit too busy I think. The white circle you have should go to the edge of the artwork and I personally almost didn't seen the denomination when I first looked at it. If you wanted to add color I was going to say you could choose the shapes you have in black, maybe changed the color of those to have different colors. That wouldn't be a bad idea tbh. The denomination blends in with the stroke and the bevel or gradient that it has going blends in too. You have to think that it isn't that big on the chip itself. You're going to want something that is going to stand out, but can be easily seen in case someone isn't familiar with standard chip colors. I'd like to say adding some color to the artwork in the middle could help make the denomination stand out more, but that's ultimately going to come down to the colors you choose. Thankfully there's a ton of different options you can mess around with because these are going to be ceramics.

I'd say, start with the base colors of the chips first and then go back to revisit the "inlay" part of it. You've got a great idea brewing, just need to focus in on one thing at a time and go through multiple different revisions.

try to imagine a pot full of these chips and you are in seat 2. the chips are 90% identical. You couldn't tell any of the chips apart from 3 feet away. The $1 and $25 are almost the same, so are the $100 and $500, the $5 and $100 too. You should be able to glance at the pot and estimate how much $$ is in there.

yep and Okku suggested, the inside of each chip can be a different color instead of all being black and white. Still would need to switch away from all of the chips being mostly black

Get rid of the trash fake graffiti around it and highlight your denom in good tag font with the outline sprayed the color of the chip. And as everyone else said, base black for the whole set is a nightmare.

I would use the color of the inserts to color the denom, simple fix, doesn't change anything in the design, you can even try two tone with a color, so for your $1, insert color (blue, aka edge spots) for the white part of the denom and a darker (not too dark) insert color for the black part of the denom. Do a couple of mocks, we'd love to see them!

so only bright blue for the top of the 1 and a darker color blue for the bottom part of the 1, leave the black brush background, but the darker part of the 1 needs to have enough contrast to see it against the black
