Hello poker players! I finally have a decent enough list of players that I can get a regular home game going and now I just need a decent set of chips. I've spent the last week obsessing and learning more than I knew there was to know about poker chips. This site has been invaluable in my research so I would like to end my first post by thanking the wonderful community here at pcf. Thanks!

Welcome! What chip set(s) are you looking into?
Glad you've been able to gather some insight from this forum, I know many of us have as well!

Hello and welcome!

I also just ran my first full 10man game a few days ago.

I must admit, if chipping is addictive, then I don't know what hosting is because I LOVED it! Wish I could host every week!

What kind of table are you playing on presently?

What kind of chips are you thinking? Have you had a chance to feel any samples?

I found sampling to be the best advice received prior to my first purchase. Not that you'd go wrong with Paulson's or CPC and the like, but there are so many different moulds.

Have fun above all!

Well I'll hand mine over man...tell me more about this door staff

Because I can't handle mine as it is...I need intervention:ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

I like to think of the door staff as the clay taxman. It's okay because we get clay rebates, but yes we must sacrifice our wallets.

On that note, your extensive membership suggests that your wallet may have already been cleaned. Please head to the classfields to sell your clay for more clay buying tokens.

When I first started this adventure, I wanted something that emulated the look and feel of real casino chips. I quickly discovered that casino quality chips are out of my price range as I can't justify spending more than a dollar per chip, yet. My main criteria became that the chips must be under 11g. This seems to weed out all of the lower quality chips. Through this forum I discovered china clays which seem like they would give the closest casino like feel at an adorable price. I like the majestics the best and was close to pulling the trigger. I just wish they had edge spot progression. I decided to do more research to make sure I wasn't overlooking any options. I came across appolon chips (https://www.apollonchips.com) who has a larger selection of ceramics than I had previously discovered. I'm partial toward the Valentino and Acsona designs so a nice ceramics are a possibility as well. That's pretty much where I stand.

As far as denominations, I currently host a 1/1 cash game with a $60 buy in but thinking about raising the max buy in to $100. I'm thinking something like

125 x $1
200 x $5
50 x $25
25 x $100

I completely agree about hosting. I would do it every week if I could get enough people to show up consistently. Oh and if I wasn't married.

I play on my round 48” kitchen table with a felt cover. It's actually not bad. I live in an NYC apartment so no room for an actual poker table.

Hello and welcome

I can't justify spending more than a dollar per chip

Some Paulsons RTC and solids are under a dollar per chip but yes China Clay and Ceramics are an excellent starting point

for the sunfly, I like the The Ravenor Classic and Everest

Give also a try to Apache (https://www.apachepokerchips.com/) China Pharaoh’s, Majestic and now the Royal (43mm !) can fit your needs

Thanks for the advice. The ravenor classic and Everest are both great looking chips. Royals are on the short list as well. Looking forward to seeing some reviews on those.
