Cash Game Fractional chips: a diatribe (9 Viewers)

Technically the most efficient jump is an ex jump (as in Euler's number), but people here like 4-5x apparently so I'll probably do that when I buy a custom set several years down the road. When I do get one, it will probably be $.25 or 25¢ AND twenty-five cents on it, but the larger will probably be whichever of the first two.
Apes may get confused with same denom presented differently on one chip. I say do it.

When I've done designs for people and they want non-denominated chip, I always try to come up with something that fits the theme (though I have nothing against an "X" or any other placeholder). Here are two examples I did for @merkong:

5¢/10¢/25¢/50¢ would be my preferred way of labeling these.

(BTW on an iPhone keyboard, if you hold down the $ key it will release a pop-up menu of other common currency symbols.)

… For my cash set, I created these solids with no denom as a “flex” chip, which could be used as a frac or a $20 chip or anything else as needed.

TBH, I made them mostly just because I had two racks of these in near mint condition, doing nothing, and figured I should use them for something

However, they have still never been used for anything.

Shame. Them pretty.

I will never understand a .50 chip...unless you're using $2, $10 & $50 as the rest of your set. Common standard progression is 4x-5x increments. .01, .05, .25, 1, 5, 20/25, 100, 500, exception for 1000 for those on the metric system and so on...

I can kind of understand it if you really don't want the BB larger than $1 but also insist on the SB being smaller than the BB. You only need like 40 for a full table to play 50c/$1. I think people also like following currency denominations where they are. 10c and 50c pieces are common, $2 bills are not.

I agree. But show me a PCFer who only owns two barrels of 50 cent fracs and who plays with them.
I’ll wait right here.

In hindsight I wish I had done a non denom for my CPC scrown Money Tree addon. Just to have more flexibility. I only ever intended to have the one cash set and it def would have been better flexibility to have a non denom.

Though I also really love the 314 for a dinky 5¢ chip and if I did a ND chip I think I would’ve felt pressure to make it trimoon.

The real mistake here (though I rarely give it much thought) is doing 5¢ instead of ¢5¢ in TRK tradition

I do believe that non denom is the way to go, but, TWO full racks, of course. I joke, I do have some sets with 2 full racks of fracs, but, most games I play are 1/1 in place of quarter/fifty. And, I never get much more than a rack in play. Machine has shown me the correct way to own fracs.

I'm working on a set with just 3 denoms, $1's, $5's and $25's.

We play .50/1 and no use for a .25 chip.
If we change something then to 1/1 or 1/2.

If I ran a .50/1 game (and I don't) I'd do it with .25s. More useable at different stakes and more freedom with bet/raise sizing. Plus MOAR chips is awesome. I view .5 chips with similar suspicion as $10 and $50 chips.

With quarters, you are prepared for both. Or, do I need to show you the maths?
Now listen here Mister "How much is it to me?" "Who's in?" "What game are we playing again?" "Can I raise?"

:wtf:

I totally understand that the quarters play in both but why wouldn't I want more denominations, more chips m0Ar MoAr MOAR !
