Tourney Friend wants a 3 table tournament, 400/300/200/75/25 set (1 Viewer)

Hey party people. Friend's party is coming up and they want a 3 table tournament using their poker set. Fine, but breakdown is 400/300/200/75/25.

Messing around in Tournament Director trying to figure out the best breakdown/starting stacks for 28 people tops. Definitely not ideal but seems doable. Most players are not poker players, the thrill of playing in a tournament and knocking their friends out is more appealing than the tournament having optimal blinds/stacks.

If T25, I was thinking 12/7/7/2. These players like stacks of chips so I wanted to give them the 12 tiny denominations hoping it means they'll play more. Not sure about rebuys or addons, I can steer them either way.


Thanks for any and all advice, I run cash and haven't put on a tournament for so many people. I'm comfortable moving tables and generally playing floor but was curious about how y'all would use the breakdown. All the threads I see are for up to 2 tables and don't have the weird denomination breakdown. Not sure how much this sucks, feel free to tear it up or help me use the search function properly.

T1/5/25/100/500? Fine with that, whats the difference? Dont know enough to prefer one or the other, just thought that the bigger numbers wouldnt get mistaken for cash or anything. Very few of these players know enough about poker to know the common color structure.

T25 or T100 base is most common in casinos, so that is what we are use to. But T1 is fine. I’ve done it before and it works well.

With those colors and non-denoms I’d definitely do t1 with T400 start stacks

Oh are there going to be rebuys? You probably need to just do T300 stacks and only 1x T100 black per stack. You have enough chips for 33 start stacks so you can make first 5 rebuys a normal stack. After that just hand out 3 blacks and they can buy change from a big stack.

Oh are there going to be rebuys? You probably need to just do T300 stacks and only 1x T100 black per stack. You have enough chips for 33 start stacks so you can make first 5 rebuys a normal stack. After that just hand out 3 blacks and they can buy change from a big stack.

First with the set above you can easily do a T25-2000 to 5000 initial starting stack with rebuys x1/player for 30 people. New players will likely get bored before winning a 10k+ t25 freeze out.....rebuys keep people in the game after being coolered.
I suggest this breakdown for what you have
T25-300
T100-400
T500-75
T1000-200
T5000-25
A t25 5k starting stack of 8/13/3/2, you will be short 15xt500 so 15 stacks must be 8/13/3/2 and 15 stacks 8/8/2/3

Incredibly helpful. With max 28 mooks it can be a bigger event, Id prefer 5-6 hours depending on play. Not end of the world if thats up or down.

$10 Entry $8 into pot, $2 Bounty
Starting stacks 500
T1 x10

T100 x 2
On time bonus T25
Potluck Bonus for bringing food T100

One time rebuy per person $10 with another bounty. 4x T25 + 4x T100

L1-L7(1-2) through (8-16) 16 min increments
Chip up and 10 minute break
L8 (10-20) through L13 (40-80) 15 minute increments
End of rebuys chip up and 10 minute break
L14 (50-100) through L18 (200-400) 14 minute increments
Chip up and 10 minute break
L19 (300-600) through L26 (2.5k-5k) 10 minute increments.
My guess will be L20 for tournament end.
May not be ideal but that's my spin on first big tournament hosting plan.

I'm weighing my options when it comes to rebuys. In a perfect world, this tournament lasts for ~5 hours. I'll be including bounties, and half the main prize pot + any rebuys goes to a charity. I've got 20 RELOAD chips and realistically may not exceed 20 players, but I don't know if I want to complicate things by doing the whole half-stack thing.

Not sure if I'll play or just walk around/direct because we've got mostly newbies but very enthusiastic newbies.

Bumping this old thread as I'm intrigued by this 1000 chip breakdown for a 3 table tourney--I like the efficiency and how it uses cash game denominations.

(Would the EOT be between L17 and L18?)
