I had posted earlier about this, but I then removed it because I felt ashamed for putting it up. After asking a few people, they encouraged me it repost it, so I’m going to leave it up.

As it says in the campaign, I was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer called lentigo maligna melanoma in May of this year. I left this forum afterwards and stayed off of social media for the most part. I didn’t want others to know about this because I didn’t want people treating me like I was sick. My brother has been asking for months now for my permission to set up a campaign for me, and I finally gave in. My only stipulation was that not be for a lot of money and that I get to control who sees it. It may not be the best way to go about it, but, again, I didn’t want people treating me like I was sick. I am optimistic about the upcoming surgery to remove the melanoma.

Even if you’ve read this far, please know that I appreciate it. I thank you, @Tommy, for giving me the go-ahead to post here, and I genuinely thank all of you for contributing to this amazing place that I can visit and take my mind off of everything else.

Sincerely,
James

Dude!!! I had no idea... And what Dan and Andrew have said above: loads of good friends of yours here, James. We're here for you brother.

I hope all goes well, my friend.

Thank you guys so much. I sincerely appreciate the kind words. My little brother texted me this morning because he was so excited about the donations. :D

Thanks, Paulo! I’m really glad to see that you’re still around! You’ve always been one of the brightest spots in this community.

I want to thank those of you who have taken the time to read and especially to those of you who have donated. I've never used one of these campaigns, but my fiancee and I were very surprised and grateful to see that the campaign had raised $100 in just six hours. I can't thank you guys enough.

My brother said that he shared the campaign on his Facebook, but isn't getting much of a response. I told him not to worry about it and that these things take time. Also, I reminded him that it's a rough time of the year for people financially with the holidays coming up. That being said, is there anything else that we could be doing? As I stated before, this is a very new thing for me, so I'm wondering if there's something missing maybe?

A fellow member here messaged me and told me that more detail would be a good thing to add. While I know that I’d prefer not to go into it so much, I also know that what I’m asking is for help. The biggest reason for this campaign is to help with medical bills for the surgery at the end of January. My mother and my brother are really the only family I have besides my fiancée, Mariah, and my lovely daughter, Maya.

This whole incident seems to be pretty commonplace. The type of melanoma I have is not rare, and I have no reason to believe that things won’t be just fine. I should have been more transparent from the beginning, and I am completely open to any questions that anyone may have.

So, yes. The point of this is to help with surgical expenses. I not only hope that people will ask me questions, but I welcome it. I understand the gravity of what I am asking, and the very least I can do is be completely transparent.

Thank you guys, and thank you, @Señor Tony, for your message.

Best of luck with the upcoming surgery, James. We are all here for support should you need to vent or get some extra encouragement.
Do NOT be ashamed!! When it comes down to it, that's what communities are for - help and support!

And best of luck with the surgery/treatment.
Best of luck man, I hope the recovery is smooth and everything works out.

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I'm grateful for anyone who donated, sent a message, or even took the time to read the OP. Asking others for help with this type of situation is incredibly stressful and, frankly, a little embarrassing. I'm very grateful to my brother for setting this up as well. He asked me a couple of days ago why I thought the campaign ended so soon, and I told him that absolutely no one has an obligation to help and to be grateful for what help I did receive, so, again, thank you.

Maybe instead of asking for some sort of donation, I could return the favor somehow. I paint pop icons on vinyl records, so maybe I could use these to try to raise money for my medical bills! I know that it would make me feel much better about the situation in general to be able to give something back. Please let me know if you are at all interested!

Here are some examples of paintings I have done:

Wow. Today I was laid off from my job. 2018 has truly been a hell of a year.

To those who have shown their support, I sincerely thank you.

That's rough man, pretty cold for the company to do that right before Christmas. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers, all the best

My full support and sincere wishes for a successful operation and a smooth recovery.
Being struck by an illness is NOT a crime:). It's not a choice anyway.
It's quite unbelievable that, in the wealthiest country in the world, life-thratening diseases are not treated for free and people can be fired when ill, for any reason.
Anyway, evil is short-lived. You 'll be OK man!

I understand that you’re new here, and as much as I would love to just grind it out, I’m not really in a position to do so. If you really feel the need to troll I’m sure you could find a million better places to do it. Thanks for the support.
Yeah clearly an asshole troll. Don’t worry about this noob. Hope everything turns around for you in the new year!

Thank you very much. I know I’m not the only one who was laid off, but I thought the same thing.

My full support and sincere wishes for a successful operation and a smooth recovery.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your kindness. While I wasn’t laid off due to my illness, it’s still rough, especially with the procedure coming up and right before Christmas.
