Just joined. Hope I’m doing this correctly. I obtained chips that say, “H. C. Edwards, Super Deal 315 west 39th st. New York 18 NY” on the box. The boxes contain 6 different colors. White,10 cents. Yellow .25 cents. Red .50 cents. Green $1. Brown $2.50. Black $5.00. All the chip say “Chateau Blanc De Seattle” on the back.
wondering about age, the manufacture, and if there is any value in them. There are a total of 389 Chips. Thanks

Interesting. H mold but also noted Christy Jones on the box... that's different.
ASM also ran H mold prior to CPC.

Can you get better closer pictures of the chips please?

Nice chips and welcome to PCF!

Chateau Blanc De Seattle is not listed in TCG so I am thinking it maybe just custom hot stamp set? "H-mold" chips, which is a reference to the design on the rim of the chip were distributed by HC Edwards, which you can see on 3 of your boxes. The chips were actually made by Burt or ASM. The Christy & Jones box is probably just a box they stored some of the chips in.

H-mold chips were made as early as mid 1930s though at least the 1990s, maybe even later.

As far as value, its kind of hard to peg a value on these older mold, depends on the history of the place it was used in. Real casinos or illegal clubs would be worth more. Also condition of the chips would impact value.

For 389 chips, assuming all in same condition that you posted, I'd hazard a guess between 25c-50c each or $100-$200 for all the chips. Maybe wait to see if anyone else chimes in. You could always list on eBay and see what it goes for. If you are interested in selling them, I'd buy a couple of the boxes (the Christy & Jones box and the best condition HC Edwards Box).

Good luck!

As others have noted, H.C. Edwards & Co., was a poker chip distributor in New York City. The chips were made by The Burt Co., a predecessor to the old Atlantic Standard Molding (ASM) and today's Classic Poker Chips.

The company was named for (and perhaps owned by) Harry C. Edwards, a New York artist, actor and businessman. The offices of The H.C. Edwards Company were not far from The Burt Co.'s factory, and the home of its owner, Alanzo Burt. Edwards also drew the illustrations in a catalog published by the Burt Co., and his friend Alanzo Burt. If you believe that the "H" was meant to be someone's initial (and not just a design feature), then it probably stood for "Harry."

The chips were made from the same H mold that exists today. There has only ever been one H mold. It was also used to make chips for some of the early casinos of Las Vegas. Your chips there, and probably millions of others, were made on that one mold.

I have no idea of the value of your chips, but early H mold chips like those have some collector value.

If you are looking to play with them, you could purchase solid HCE chips from Classic Poker Chips without an inlay and have one of the folks here hot stamp them for you. Colors won’t match perfectly, but that’s probably ok. Adds to the story.

I love @gmunny answers!

H-mold provenance is huge...so much history.

Very happy to own an awsome Key West set, my players really like the vintage styled inlay.
