Hardest thing to get quality chips (1 Viewer)

@Seb What kind of surface will you be playing on? Clay chips will be much more prone to damage on a hard surface.

I'm looking for some nice velvet, and also cards. I was thinking of bicycle prestige cards, are they the better choice?

No velvet. A neoprene topper, like thin mouse pad material, that can be rolled up is much better. I've heard that Bicycle Prestige cards are good quality for lowest price.

At first I used to have a billiard felt with padding underneath on a normal table, then a cheap Chinese poker table, then finally a custom built poker table. I’ve also played on a neoprene topper, and agree it is the best option for you. Out of those only the neoprene topper and proper poker table have been good enough to really protect the chips. You can buy a Chinese one cheap, or get custom dimensions and graphics from a great PCF vendor in France (just contact @PokerChipsDesign for more details). I would go custom even though it is more expensive, unless you plan to get a new table in the near future.

As far as cards go, there are many, many good options. Do you prefer them very flexible or more rigid? Bridge or poker size? Two or four color decks? There are also different types of indexes (regular, jumbo, 4-pip etc.). And of course looks matter as well. The Prestige cards are by Fournier, which makes them kind of a medium stiffness. Should be great value so by all means get them, try them out and go from there. :)
