I'm in Vegas to support my buddy's entry into the WSOP main event today. I figured I would hit a whole bunch of casinos and see if I could finish off a few racks here and there.

I was horrified to come across so many ceramic POS chips. Playing at Flamingo, not only were the $5s shitty blanks, but the $25s and $100s were as well. :vomit:

Who the hell thinks that this looks good? The Paulsons are fire compared to this trash.

It was very fun walking around though. Hunting for some spotted $1s, I had to put my puppy dog eyes on and beg, but I did have some success when I spotted their yellow, orange and white jauntiness peeking out from behind some of the barrels.

But across all the six casinos I've been in, the chips that are out there on the floor are just trash. It must be so difficult to collect more than a barrel or two of actually usable chips nowadays.

I couldn’t imagine slowly sorting for days while playing. Everyone’s milage may vary, but when I’m looking for chips in person I either just specifically ask the cage for what I need, “Can I get a rack of the $2s in good condition?” or just buy a ton of racks at once, sort, and drop off the trash.

I’m always pretty surprised at the willingness to help, and the worst you get is a no!

The cage and the floor dealers were very happy to help me. But they couldn't; lack of chips, lack of good condition chips.

I might have been able to score some VG+ Flamingo $1 hot stamps by asking. But the good condition chips were few and far between.

Hmm, just me thinking out loud.

Maybe the regular harvesters done just that and harvest the good condition chips, since they likely have insiders or people telling them when the new conditions chips is added to the vault

Curiousity since I’ve never tried, How often do people turn you down when asking like this?
If they have the chips never, but very limited attempts.

Something like 8/8 for all time.

My experience in Vegas is you can do almost literally anything you want anywhere, as long as you do it with a good mood and a smile. Attitude and kindness go a long way.

It's possible that they know people and have made connections. But still, just looking around the tables, it's 90% beat up trash or Icon garbage.

That’s good news then, I definitely want to try next time I’m at a casino, but was nervous cause I have no clue how they’d react or how often people just get told no. The idea of getting them and throwing them all in a bag or something and walking out just feels like stealing for some reason lol

Ditto, was wondering the same thing. What do you do, dump a rack into a back pack and walk out looking like the uni bomber? lol
Do they care?

I hate the ceramics as well. I've noticed more and more casinos and card rooms in the industry are converting to them instead of Paulsons or other clays. I guess this is a huge cost saving thing for them, but they are ugly and feel cheap. I guess players just dont really care to where it makes a difference for the Casino.

Casinos also probably don’t want people harvesting $1 and below chips, so the more it happens the more incentivized they are to substitute for either cheaper chips or ones people don’t want to harvest.

My experience: the cage gave me 3 racks of $1s when I asked for them, so I guess YMMV
