Hi all. I created my account last week, but I'm just now finding the time to say hello. I have been lurking all week though -- just trying to figure out how to navigate the site, etc. So many great resources, and so much eye candy! What brings me here? Well, I had been looking into getting a set of the World Top Hat and Cane chips several years ago but I didn't because I couldn't afford them at the time (we just had our son, so I thought ..."in a few years I'll get them"). And then, the next time I looked they were discontinued. Yeah, I'm still real salty about it. So I plan to hang around here and hopefully find something great. I missed the chance try for a set of JACK Casino chips a couple of weeks ago too :(. I think Fate doesn't really want me to have nice chips, but I'm stubborn so here I am :).
 
Welcome!!! Dont lose hope! Both sets you've mentioned do come up for sale from time to time, as well as individual racks! I would say achieving your dreams is possible!!! Enjoy the forum!

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for -- either catch something I like when it's for sale, or perhaps get in one one of the group buys that seem to occur.
 
You did nothing wrong. Some people insist that their alleged “group buy” was not in fact a “group buy.” It’s kind of a running joke that can derail threads. Calling @Josh Kifer!

Welcome, @TheSourPatchKid! This site is full of a ton of great people, chips, tables, cards, games, information, fun, etc., with occasional bursts of acrimony.

It's kind of like you just married into a crazy dysfunctional family. You eventually learn not to ask questions openly about Aunt Linda and her new boyfriend. :D

I already got him lined up to play in noobs game in Jan :tup: . Can't wait to meet another PCFer from Ohio.

Although you may have missed the Black Friday sale, you could easily put a cash set together at a reasonable price. Of course, like many here, you would need to find a substitute frac.

No worries man. I suspected it was a joke, but being new, I just wasn't certain. In fact I'm such a n00b at forum posting that I had to google "FYP" :-)

I've tried to dig around the site for a reference page explaining terms like GLWS, fracs, primary/secondary, barrel, etc. but I suppose I'll just learn those things as I go (so far I can generally infer the meanings).

As for my wallet, I'm not yet sure if I should be more concerned by that or for my sanity :-) It seems like chips sell in a split second which is sure to stress me out as I stare at the post with analysis paralysis...and then, bam!, they're gone!

And this whole calling "dibs" and "mine" business feels so wild west and confusing. It's hard to tell what's available and what's long gone. In fact, I can still click on the Jack T10000 Black Friday sale link and it takes me straight to my PayPal account to check out to the tune of $1499 which sort of freaks me out because I know full well that they're gone.

Anyhow, I'm very glad to be here, and thanks (to all of you) for your welcoming words. We'll see if I can stomach the highs and lows trying to assemble my dream chip set, or if I should stick to the readily available, and very nice, stock from places like Classic Poker Chips (currently leaning towards doing that, esp. since I've read their prices will be going up in the new year).
 
Fyp=fixed your post
Glws=good luck with sale
Barrel=20 chips
Rack=100 chips
Fracs=25¢ or 50¢ chips (fractional)
Primary is the main chips casinos use and they have a secondary backup chip to keep game going Incase the primary's become compromised.
