Hello,
I've been lurking here a few weeks now and finally decided to introduce myself. I recently had poker night with some friends, a small home game for $20 buy in, and I realized I was getting tired of my 20+ year old set of dice chips. There began my journey/deep dive into the world of poker chips! I found Hobbyphilic's youtube page and the rest is history. That's what led me here. This morning I saw the Tangiers pre orders and thought, well I better get my forum privileges up before its too late! Those seem to be exactly what I was looking for. Design wise and price wise.
A little about me:
I'm a California native. Grew up in the South Bay then moved to Sonoma County in my 20's and never left. Growing up, my family always had small stakes poker games at the holidays. I remember sitting on my grandpas lap while he played, the sound of chips shuffling, coins, the chatter, the smell of smoke and wine. Brings back fond memories. My siblings and I have kept up the tradition and now passing it along to our kids. In my 20's a group of friends started a home game, we played once or twice a month. $60 buy in, dealer calls. We play all kinds of games, holdem, omaha, all sorts of 7 card games, etc.. To this day we still get together, but less often. We're lucky if we get a game in every 3-6 months now. Last time we played was back in January. I'm hoping that investing in some nice chips will draw the group back together more often
. As for my involvement in poker, I have only ever played in home games. I was always too intimidated to go into the poker rooms in casinos. When I go to Tahoe, Reno, or Vegas I usually just stick to black jack and craps. More so craps these days. Every casino I go to I always keep a $1 chip, so now I have a stack of maybe 30 or so $1 chips from various casinos over the years. I tried to bump it to $5 chips but....ya, that's hard lol. Lately I've been watching alot of poker videos on youtube.
Some of my other hobbies include video games (iRacing, Magic the Gathering Arena, MLB the Show) these are the 3 games I've been playing lately. I know, quite the variety!. I'm really into endurance sports car racing. Think 24 hours of lemans, IMSA, ELMS, etc. I spent a lot of time at Laguna Seca and now Sonoma Raceway watching races. I'm also really into music. Me and my kids play music. I'm into guitars and guitar pedals. I also play board games. My play group gets together like once a month and we rotate between our D&D campiagn and various strategy games. Too many to list right now.
And now I'm obsessed with poker chips.
I look forward to meeting you guys through the forums!
-Cheers
