2 Grand casino poker chips. $1000 denominations but they look slightly different. Any ideas why?

No idea why they are different but they are. Are you able to weigh them? The chip with the inlay with the pattern appears to be textured and the chip has a smaller recess for the inlay compared to the other chip.

Relabel project maybe? Background print on the label on the left looks like a security feature which wouldn't be an option when relabeling.

I would say probably just a different version of the same chip. I saw your eBay auction and mercari post. These 1ks are pretty rare I don’t know if I’ve seen them for sale before. I don’t think so. Looks like yours have some warping or heat damage maybe? It’s possible that the plastic covering on one of those inlays came off or that it’s just a different version. They are pretty scarce though and desirable. Do you have other denominations?

It does look like different versions of the same chip. The one without the background printing has a micro-dot for security. Could be that it was just cheaper to print whichever version was printed second.

Two different versions of the IHC mold. The newer version is designed for a larger inlay size, and that chip looks to be a reorder (using a slightly different inlay with security features not available on the older order).

Both versions are recorded at The MoGH's ChipGuide. Both are oversized, Inverted Hat and Cane molded chips. The one with the plain white inlay, on ChipGuide is a notched version. If you visit ChipGuide, the chips are listed under a single category, but should be separated as 2 different entries because they are very different. Inlays are with and without a filigree printing, and the inserts are shorter in 1 version, only reaching half way into the molds, while the longer ones go further. When I get a chance to separate the entries, it will be easier to see the differences.

Is there scope to differentiate between the 2 different IHC molds like with scv and lcv?

Maybe it's me, but the cane looks quite a bit thicker on the one with the patterned inlay.
And as @BGinGA mentioned, that inlay area on the new one is much closer to the hats than on the older one.

Are you looking at the images in this thread, or the images at The MoGH's ChipGuide? ChipGuide has images from a scanning process, not oblique angle, camera pics.

The Chipguide photo of the newer one is awful, cant really see the canes at all.
But even with an angle, I can differentiate space between the recesses and the hats. These two are definitely different.

Great stuff... Thank you! I have now separated the two Grand Casino chips on ChipGuide, as they are different and deserve their own space, with their own details.

I didn’t realize you WERE chipguide.
Just an Admin. 1 of about 25 of us. I thought I had mentioned this in my Introduction post, perhaps not. I am passionate about ChipGuide, as the other Admins are, and want it to be as correct as is possible, so I appreciate the knowledge base here. Thanks! Jim
