Hello everyone,

The reason I am joining this group is because I want to build a set of Paulson poker chips. I've tried eBay and it seems like people are really trying to gouge buyers on the price of their chips. Ultimately I want to learn more about Paulson chips without losing a ton of money in the process.

Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Chips with denominations
2. Chips with casino logos on them
3. Paulson mold variety
4. Obscurity
5. Moderate seller pricing

I'm looking to build a non matching set for a home game that I run. We play a cash game (10 cent/20 cent game). Low stakes, fun crowd. Ideally I'd like to have chips with denominations. I want Paulson chips but the entire set does not have to match. I'd like each denomination to be matching but from amount to amount they do not have to match. Here's an example....If I have the $5 Par-A-Dice Paulson chips I do not have to have the Par-A-Dice chips for the other denominations.

So, I see this as a great opportunity for some of the Poker Chip Forum members who may be reading this to PM me with 100 chips that you may have laying around that don't belong into a particular poker set that you may be building.

Hit me up! Thanks

Welcome Brad!
Nice to have some projects!
Gonna be hard to find paulson casino chips with 0.1$ and 0.2$ chips, you guys will maybe have to raise the blinds at 0.25-0.25
Quarters are usually the minimum for pulson casino chips.
Good luck !

Welcome and you came to the right place. Be sure to watch the classifieds where some of us will post chips for sale. You can also post a wanted info there are certain chips you are looking for.

Welcome. Lots to learn here. For your mixed casino set, you will find that Paulson .25 chips in decent shape will most likely be expensive. I would recommend using a multiplier and look for 1s, 5s, 25s, maybe some hundos.

There are some members that will offered very reasonable prices here and others that ask for full market value or more. Watch what things sell for if the prices are listed. Since you do not care about matching molds, you will be able to build a Paulson set at a good price I think. What is a good price? That is very difficult to answer. It depends on what casino and the condition of the chips.

Have fun shopping!

Right on! Thanks for the feed back! Here's another thought I had.....

Maybe we could use $10 chips for 10 cents on the table, and $25 for 25 cents on the table and so on.
$10= 0.10
$25= 0.25
$50= 0.50
$100= $1.00
$500= $5.00
$1000=$10.00

Just a thought. I think it would work just fine. Also, I think the group of money hoarding cheapskates that I play with would like the inflated values on the chips.

Welcome Brad

It sounds like you are primarily focused on Paulson chips, but you may want to consider Classic Poker Chips (ASM) as well. Unless you are willing to shell out some decent cash, I think you will have a hard time finding Casino Paulsons in .25 and $10... and then $100, $500 and $1000 can get pretty pricey as well.

The CPC Key West Line has both a .05 and .25 denomination and are reasonably priced. Dennis is a vendor on this site. You can search the topic about how they compare to Paulsons. They are still real Clay chips and are used in casinos, but they just feel a little different.

Good Luck

Welcome Brad,
You may also want to use a Roulette chip for a dime, these do not have .10 on them but if your other chips have dinoms it works nicely.. you can find them on here and Feebay from time to time at a reasonable price..

may your wallet be empty and your CHIP racks be full..

Welcome to PCF.

Best of luck with your search. As you're probably already finding out, your parameters might not fit the market, so stay flexible, and learn from members.

When I first started, I was looking tourney chips to fit a 5/10 structure, but quickly realized, just cuz my neighbors played tournies with starting blinds of 5/10, didn't make it best. We quickly shifted gears to chipsets that started with the more standard 25 denoms. So we now start our tournies at 25/50 blind levels.

Fully agree, and can't recommend Key West enough. Do yourself a favor and at least get a sample set of their chips. It will be difficult to find a set of 500-600 Paulsons for the same price of 500-600 Key West chips, and effectively impossible to get *new* Paulsons for that price - specially the fracs.

Welcome Brad, and plan on leaving your wallet at the door. It's like Hotel California in here. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

But seriously. Have fun on your Paulson hunt. You won't regret it. Lots of great info and great people here.

Mixed sets are certainly easier to put together. This was my only mix set many years ago

Welcome. You may get lucky if the Chiproom gets a new batch of chips and does a sale while you are searching. What will likely happen is you will complete your set... then the chiproom will have a sale... then you will build a second set... that is how it starts.

You'll have a MUCH easier time finding $5 chips, compared to $10. $50 Paulson chips are almost non-existent, and not really necessary for these stakes.

$500 and above, Paulsons start to get very pricey, but you may not need a huge amount of them if the stakes are low.

I enjoy mixed sets, even if they're not everyone's cup of tea:

Welcome Sir! Fine vintage chips are a blessing for a home game.

The prices for Paulson chips have been going up for a long while but spiked hard in 2015. No one can say if this is abnormal or the new normal or a bargain relative to 2017 prices. I encourage you to buy what you like in your price range and not try to time the market.

As many have said before me, fractional chips (those who's face value is less than a dollar) are hard to find and expensive. Chips less than $0.25 are quite rare in bulk and likely priced well above your target price. There are several options. a) you can use multipliers to turn a $25 chip into a quarter and a $10 chips into a dime. b) you can relabel chips by using high quality stickers - I attached a picture where a $1 chip from Garden City was turned into a $0.25 chip from the Aztar. c) you could buy fractional chips from fantasy sets to use in your mixed set.

Note - Expand the image to full size to see the $0.25 chips in the upper right that were relabeled Garden City chips. Labels from Gear - he did a great job matching the set.

Obscure = hard to find in quantity, harder to find add-on chips and often quite expensive. Any vintage casino set is going to be Obscure from the point of view of a regular poker player. Only the crazy folks around here can toss around short versions of the chips home casino and expect people to know what they mean.

Go get 'em! You know you want to -=- DrStrange
