I've taken a liking to the Grand Victoria chips and most that I've seen for sale are in great condition for a reasonable price. However, before I attempt to try to get a 600 chip cash set together, I wanted to see if there was anyone out there that knows the history on this set..like how many chips were released, when they were released, etc.

My main reservation is the same as most people on this forum...the frac problem. My set needs (200) $0.25 chips so I would need to find (200) of the pink $2.50 chips in great condition. I have seen a few around here but have no idea how many were made or if I would be trying to do the impossible by finding 200 of them without spending $10 a chip which isn't happening. Then there is that option of finding another non-GV chip to relabel but that doesn't seem to work well without a lot of search, work and more money.

What are my chances of finding (200) $2.50 GV fracs? Any info on when these chips were released and how many are out there would appreciated. Also...how do these chips get out into the public in the first place?

The Grand Victoria Casino & Resort was a riverboat casino located in Rising Sun, Indiana. The chips were purchased by Jim Shaffer of TheChipRoom after the casino closed in August 2011, and were offered to the chipping community via a sale on ChipTalk.net in February 2012.

The purchased chips included $1, $2.50, $5, $25, $100, $500, and oversize 43mm $1000 denominations in two different sets - primary and backup (secondary). All chips were on the RHC mold with faux-shaped inlays (except the $1000s). Most of the primary chips had seen table use in the casino, but the secondary chips were mint/unused. There were also roulette chips (on the Paulson roulette mold) made available in a number of different solid colors - some used, some new.

I don't have the actual numbers that were purchased/sold by TheChipRoom, but Jim usually disclosed those numbers once his stock was depleted. Somebody else here may have retained that info ( @ovo ?).

Like all TheChipRoom sales threads, this one was taken down after the sale. You might be able to find an archived copy using Wayback Machine:

My personal history @ this casino.

Walked in, went to poker room, they asked me if I wanted to join the interest list there were 2 waiting for a table, no other tables (was a Friday lunch time). Asked to buy a chip and left the casino.

Was not surprised when the chips were for sale the next year.

I would ask Jim at chiproom and see if he has mintage info

Thanks for all of this info.

You need to find a chip that fits the set, and get labels made or not, it makes no difference what is under the label or on the chip if it works

Both options work for me

Have Fun

Back on my soapbox!!

You don't really need fake quarter chips. Just multiply by four on buy-ins, divide by four on cash outs (e.g., with $50 buy-ins for .25/.50, give everyone $200 in actual GV chips). Play the games as $1/$2, and get those delicious larger denomination chips into play!

Yeah, I'm pretty damned predictable....

But It's as close as I'm ever going to come to being on a religious crusade...

(And the oddest aspect of that might be that there are very, very few pcfers -- maybe only one -- who own as many frac chips as I do.)

I don't care if you multiply by four, so long as you use a 25/75 blind level. :sneaky:

I personally dislike this, as do many players. Banking errors are more likely, as is player confusion for those who want their bets to translate to money values without doing math.

People are bad at math.

This is the same reason I backed down on using 1k tourney chips instead of jumping to 2k or 2.5k. Dumb players hate it, and dumb players are good for the game.

I like these too. I am using orleans buy in chips as relabeled .25s and arc yellow Paulson ad chips as relabeled .05s. These were super easy to find, I just posted a WTB ad and had all kinds of responses. Gear is already tooled up for GV relabels.

That set is damn impressive. Amazing actually. I have 200 of the Orleans chips and that was my plan. Do you have pics of the light blue Orleans relabeled GV $0.25?

Not yet. I'm waiting on labels from @Gear now, but he has sent me sample art for other GV quarters he's done before, and assures me he can match the blue for the faux-shaped inlay.

I can't wait to see this, please post it if you could. I have 200 Orleans to use as quarters but need to see what they look like first.

My dimes and quarters... I wanted to use the Harrah's hotstamped, but never found enough quantity...

I am throwing in my two cents here. Gear labels is where it is at. He mocked up a .25 label for my cinncy snapppers. Still need to relabel, but below is the mockup and the current state of the vics.
