History of the Grand Victoria GV (Rising Sun, Indiana) Chips (2 Viewers)

Thanks everyone for all of the information...I went ahead and bought a cash set of these. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on a sample set quick enough. It's not a perfect denomination set as I will still need an extra rack of $1 and some relabeled fracs, but it's a good start.

Thanks all!

My Grand Victoria cash set is coming together nicely & quickly. A big thank you to the forum member who kindly supplied me with (20) more Garden City $1's for my now full two racks of soon to be relabeled quarters. Very appreciated!

Now I need to ultrasonically clean the dirty chips and then for Gear Labels to drive this project home!

We apparently have different ideas about what makes a desirable opponent. I'd rather play with fish.

I guess that all depends on whether you play for the money or for the challenge of beating the best.

I'll never really have the gambler's mindset of playing for really high stakes and putting everything I own on the line, so I'm happy playing against the best players I can afford, like at BARGE.

So you've already overshot your target 600 chip set by 200, and still going strong. I like it!

Ha! I didn't remember saying that but I guess I did. I found a set of 510 that was priced perfectly...th only issue that it had an extra rack of $5's that I will probably never need and one less rack of $1. I thought about trading it for a rack of ones, but decided to keep them. Adding in the 2 racks of blue chips and an extra rack of $1 I picked up, that makes a nice round 800 chips + 10 spares. I'll probably never use the greens and blacks either...they are just there for show!

Come play in NE some time. I'm sure you'll go home longing for a fish to sit with. Our .25/.50 (sometimes .05/.10) is among the toughest any of us have ever played.

Oh, I'm sure that's true. But what's your frame of reference? I've played with Bergs, Guinness, and jbutler. Great guys, and great players, to be sure.

But I never long for fish. Even fish72. (j/k, Greg!)

Our regular game with @bergs and @guinness and @JoseRijo and @iBetOnEverything and @ssanel54 and @Jimulacrum and a couple other locals is all very strong players, playing high variance games and deep stack poker. It is a minefield and very tough game.

If this were the only game I ever played in, I'd be hard pressed keeping a bankroll to play with. Playing with the fish lets me keep my roll healthy.

After watching the GV market for awhile now, it's pretty apparent that I will probably never have the chance to buy a large quantity of $2.50 pink chips. (I'm not sure what I would do with them or if I could afford them, but that's beside the point).

From the chip log above, it looks like they are almost as rare as the $500 chips that go for $10-$12 a chip. I curse the poeple that buy racks of these chips and sell them off one by one on eBay. That's one way to assure they will never be played as a set.

And some of the individual chip collectors curse us for doing the same in reverse - it drives up the cost of the individual chips and reduces their ability to find singles in good condition at more affordable prices.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure I buy into either argument.

That's an interesting way of looking at it.

I'm the proud owner of (1) $2.50 GV chip. Yeah!

Buy it or not, but that was expressed by multiple vendors at the convention, and I've heard it from a couple non-vendors as well. @Gear and I discussed it at length at the con. I can accept it from singles collectors, but as a vendor I think the arguement is straight silly.
