Home made clay poker chips (3 Viewers)

Pretty cool once you see it all and realize you’re not ripping anyone off. We commend everyone on this site when they build their own poker tables, bars, lights, humidors, etc., so I’m thinking many would commend you on a literal custom built chip set!

No idea what this looks like if you’re eventually able to sell, to who, and all that, but I would definitely like to buy a sample from you once it’s all said and done, maybe one of your first ever chips all the way to your finished/desired product.
I would love to send samples... the shipping from Slovakia to USA is pretty expensive though...

Not a big deal. Do your thing, if a couple people end up wanting a sample in the end we could pay and split shipping.

I’m also in France for the time being so that may be easier.

Seems like you have a long way to go but looking cool. What was the most difficult part so far? How easy is it to come up with colors?

If you ever need help with designing the chips/colors/spot patterns, you’re in the right place!

Yeah, France is definetally reacheble... i really don’t know. I am enjoying to make them. I Just felt frustrated couple times when some ideas with the formula (chemistry thing) didn’t work as I presumed. And of course it takes a lot of time. I work with a little hand-press and just 1 mold. It is like hand made all the way. I cut the inlays by hand aswell.

I forgot to ansawer the question about colours... you see, i work with natural pigments which are used to make Master-grade oil paintings (pretty expensive) so i can mix nearly any colour. Weight is an issue becouse every pigment weighs diferently, so i use Iron powder to put extra weight if needed, and i am also trying to find other solutions to slove this so every chip is in the 10g range. If you have some design ideas and you are open to share them, feel free to post and i can try to put them into solid reality ;)

Some lathing went on...
Very seriously cool! Ignore the haters. Apparently they don't understand the pride and personal satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own two hands. You CANNOT put a price on that! I would love to see the finished product someday.

It's not just that - some people just want something different and unique. My son wanted a stereo when he was 9, but he didn't want something anybody else had (so that means no going to a store and buying one). We went to Walmart and bought a car stereo deck and 4 speakers. Then we went to Home Depot for some lumber. I hooked it up to an old computer power supply to push everything, mounted the deck and speakers into a sheet of wood, completed making the wood box around it all, and presto he was happy - or still is, seeing as how that was 10 years ago and he still uses it. He even uses a 3.5mm cord to the AUX port on the deck to route the sound from his xbox through it. Now how many people would rather have a normal store bought house stereo - he wanted something different.

Thank you! I will :)

And honestly I would either contact David Spragg at CPC about using this copy of the H-mold for this project or simply make a new mold design yourself, to make sure you are not infringeing on any copyright.

And I'm definitely in for samples down the line as well!

Thanks for advice, yeah, we spoke about it. I need to Gather 400€ extra money and will put the new “Strasser” mold into production.

If you don't end up putting Paulson out of business with your chip endeavor, you absolutely must collaborate with CPC on this color thing. This is non-negotiable.

It is a lot of work to make poker chips, the end result is good but they seem a bit heavy.
Did he say how much they are going to weigh? I didn't see that post. They are real clay chips, without inserts, I think. I would expect they will be close to casino weight.

Holy cow this is amazing. I hope you're still working on this project and I hope it comes to great success.

I have so many questions! What kind of press are you using and how did you get it? How did you make the mold? What materials are you using for the chips? Can you share your formula? There are so many cool Do-It-Yourself "maker" projects all over youtube; this would be such a fun project for anyone to take on. It's one thing to say "Here's my custom set, I got it from CPC" and a completely different thing to say "Here's my custom set, I made it myself!"

I would love to have a sample set of any chips that you make, and would be willing to pay whatever shipping costs (even from so far away!) and to pay any price for the chips that you thought was fair. I like to collect interesting and unusual chips, and you couldn't get more interesting and unusual than a compression-molded chip hand-made by a poker chip fan such as yourself.

Good luck with your project, @Strasser ! I hope you can keep us posted as you go.

This is really cool stuff, are you still working on it? Any progress?
I'm having ideas to do something similar myself in the future, I'd love to hear more about your thought process :)

I don’t understand what the drama was about here, and OP hasn’t been on the site in almost a year, but I am seriously impressed at how far OP got with his chips. I thought the thread was going to be a joke, but those chips are way closer to reality than I would have expected.
