How are your China Clays holding up after a year? (2 Viewers)

Cash set has seen very little use, the product of too many cash sets and our thinning player pool. Paulsons & Bud Jones usually win out over the 8V's with my crowd.

My tournament set got lots of use until the GCOP chips came around. Only get used once or twice a year now.

I did/do have some flaking issues especially from the pink & white chips. Luckily I only used the white chips for bounties and have them in airtites so not a problem so much. The other colors all shed lightly to some degree but nothing as bad as the pinks. Have had a couple of chunks chip off an edge on about 3-4 over time. If you do a lot of chip shuffling you will have more problems. Considering they are probably made from recycled tires or something they have held up pretty well, especially for the price point.

I'd like to hear from more people who use the PGI 8V chips. Would be great to know whether flaking is occurring, but also the amount of use that the chips have seen.

Don't want to start a whole other thread, but have only heard from a few 8V people in here: @manamongkids (negative); @mooremo (positive - apart from pink spotted chips); and @krafticus (positive).

Anyone else? I know at least @TheBigTater and @ttttubby had sets and obviously many more.

I believe @spikeithard had a set of 8v's as well.

I have two sets of chips I've owned for 5 (Nexgen Pro tournament set) and ~8 years (CT group buy of ASM 312 no-inlay HHR cash set from back when they were only pressing the 312 spots for consumers). They're both invincible. I'm happy with both for as much as I use them, but it'd be nice to move the Nexgens (I know they're not worth a whole lot) and replace them with the new Dunes CC if it comes to fruition; however, I'm having second thoughts about that enthusiasm given the increasing number of horror stories from this thread.

Part of me thinks there are too many variables between the manufacturing processes, storage, shipping conditions, frequency of play, etc. to write off an entire line of chips wholesale without having owned them myself. I'm just trying to minimize the risk of spending on a large set of chips that I would like to last me a while and ending up with a pile of dust after 3 years. I understand that there's something to be said for saving for a really nice custom set, but the reality is that I know that's not for a while for me.

I don't know. I thought the china clays were going to be the next huge thing in reasonable poker chips so maybe I've always had an unrealistic expectation about the longevity of chip sets that aren't CPC/ASM, Paulson, or any of the legacy high-end casino-grade lines. All I know is my cheap chips are unstoppable (even if they stack like greased pigs) and my ASMs, despite not being very visually interesting (maybe some hot stamps would change that ), haven't shed a fleck in almost a decade.

My 8vs seem to be holding up pretty well though I confess that they don't get much use these days. My 2d14 Greek keys from Palm imports are holding up nicely as well. The only thing I'm noticing with these is that some of fluorescent pink spots on the purple chips have faded fairly dramatically (and they've been inside an aluminum hard case- so no light exposure.

Sadly I've just not been playing poker much lately so none of my chips (all of which are China clays) are getting much use. I really need to fix that.

As mentioned, I got my wife's cousin these chips about 4 years ago. They are used every Saturday, and other than the hand grime, are as good as the day I got them. Not the best pic, but here you go. Next time I play there, I'll take some pics

I pulled my sample sets of 8V chips out last night which were shuffled a fair amount when I first received them, but have now sat for a couple of years in a storage container and there was no disintegration of any of the chips.

Thought I do still find it semi-difficult to put together a cash set progression that I love, mostly due to the fact that there's a green spot on the black chip.

I wouldn't want it to sound like these chips are a nightmare. And they certainly aren't what i call disintegrating before my eyes. For what they are (mid-range CC chips) they are/were a great value. Yes, some colors had flaking problems from some of the batches. I understood going in that they are made with inconsistent materials and QC from batch to batch, but the price point reflects that. I love the 8V design and don't regret getting them at all.

I have a few sample sets, the Desert Palm's blue chips were HORRIBLE for sticking to the desk, I never thought I could spill drinks that often or if they were sticking just from the heat (30C room) but the edges look like a damn mouse has been eating them. I'll try and take a picture when I get home... That, and my 2year old son likes playing with them.
The Pharaoh's Club look pretty good, just a few nicks, but they definitely are getting dirty.

My Milano $5's are pretty entertaining how they change color and fade so randomly.. I'm sure oiling them will help, but some edges are turning white, whilst the chip below it is deep red still.

As one would guess, my ASM sample set is as good as the day I bought it... maybe a little better because they are BY FAR the easiest to shuffle :)

There's my team of Milanos

My Desert Palms that stick to the table so bad I've had to chip them off with a knife...

Purchased my Pharaoh's Club chips from Apache in early 2013. Chips are not stored in low natural light basement. While not stored in direct sunlight they are definitely exposed to sunlight. Some observations after 2.5 years of fortnightly tournament use.

- No chipping, crumbling or sticking to table so far.

- Labels/stickers on the green $25 tend to bubble up and start to come loose (more often than other denoms). Some firm pressure with your finger and they stick right back on.

- $25 have some discolouration of edge spots. Only present on the pink/salmon colour and mostly on the rolling edge only.

i was thinking about getting in on the new Dunes GB but this all scares me. I'd rather not invest in a set that may have issues in 2-3 yrs. Those are China Clays with likely same material as these others with issues right?

I retired my pharoah's after I picked up my (first) set of custom chips.

But even then, it would start flaking. I then turned it into a tournament set that really only sees action about twice a year or so.

Does anyone know the name of the company in China that manufactured the Pharaohs?

Sorry maybe Im having a brain fart, couldnt find it. I know someone mentioned Sunfly, and there was another Ningbo Chinese co. Can you please remind me, TY.

That wasn't the least of the offences...
  • They actually decided that they preferred dice chips
  • moving a player for table balancing was decided by vote
  • cheap fold-out toppers that were wider than the tables, so if someone leaned on it... AVALANCHE!!!!
  • Pay structure for 20 player, $20 buy-in with rebuys: 3rd $20 - 2nd $40 - 1st everything else.
  • Fee to play (I think it was $20 a year)
  • No rules of etiquette followed
I poached the most personable players.
Their game died.

Poker Sorry.
Jesus Christ, Dice chips make me cringe, they're the most common chip in the UK, and thus, I hate them.

Imported by da Vinci, the first china clays were produced on the spirit mold by Eastony Industries. The 'spirit' mold marking is the company's logo, and is often confused with the similar logo used by Sprint.

da Vinci offered two chip lines on the spirit mold: Pyramids Casino, and Casino da Vinci.

How do these CC's compare to the later generations like the Majestics, Pharaohs, Milanos etc? Better, worse quality? TY.

I'm not sure, but I think some of the newer chips being called "China Clays" are actually more of a simple "plastic/rubbery puck plastic" chip vs. some types of the older more crumbly "claylike" CC's, such as the original PGI walls....
I'm sure someone who is very familiar with both will chime in with some info .. ...
