How many chips do I need for an underground casino? (5 Viewers)

Who will be invited to this illegal casino and will there be a codeword or secret knock?!?:ninja:

  1. You started your question with winning the powerball
  2. You're building a "man cave" but your screen name is Linda.
  3. You've been on PCF for 4 years and have 15 posts.
  4. Everything about the question is rather extreme.
Taking all this into account, I suspect we all took your "question" as less than serious.

What do you plan to do with your fantasy casino?
I have a vague backup plan for after the bombs fall (grid down, whatever you want to call it scenario)
I plan to open "the hunger games casino", where players will bring items of food in lieu of worthless cash that will be exchanged for house credit....then after they play they can take their chips to the prize table (like a ticket arcade) and claim their prizes...you could come with a can of peas and leave with a turkey and a jar of mayonnaise (A big winner!)

For that I assembled (ok not specifically for that but jokes aside "I could").
- a large cash set of over 5k chips, plus another cash set of primary/secondary chips that also reach roughly the same cash value. You may also want a large ncv set for tournament play.
- 1 poker table with a rake will require significantly more lower denomination chips than you think to fill the box.
- your minimum/maximum bets and table odds will dictate how how large your chips bank should be. If the odds offer a 25× or even 100× payout then you will need to have enough chips to cover that plus+ more.

I figure it could handle up to 1-2 poker tables, 1 blackjack and 1 roulette or some other combo of 4 to 5 table games or up to 10 table poker or blackjack tournament play with the sets i have for low to moderate stakes.

That aside you will then need to consider security........ the more ambitious you get you would need even more security.

So unless your buying a set as a backup for being a prepper I don't think you'll find yourself running an economical underground op or info here that will answer your question well.
So you have 10,000 chips for this scenario? Did I follow? Have you hosted any trial runs? How many people came?

For me, we have hosted a few casino parties where we had maybe 40 adults, and the party company brought 4 table games, and it was a canned food fund raiser. Tons of fun. I could definitely see that scenario many times. But I also am academically curious what the chip bankroll would need to be to actually run that like a mini, underground casino.

1. I find a lot of fun conversations start with, “pretend you won the lottery…”. They’re not for everyone, but I have a ton of fun with these rediculous conservations.
2. I am a guy, but I don’t consider my past, present, or fantasy future man cave a “guys only” place. More that the term encapsulates the idea better than any other word.
3. Guilty as charged?
4. I just watched the movie Rad with my daughter, so to be fair, I am feeling rather extreme.

In all seriousness, this idea is on my list for our next, custom home. So I’d say the odds of me doing it in the next 10 years is probably about 50/50.

I think more information is needed to answer the question.

How many tables do you plan to run?

What stakes do you plan to play/host?

Do you plan to also host tournaments or only cash games?

Give or take, 1000 chips per table should be plenty, but if you spread multiple levels of stakes then you'll need more top end chips. Especially if you're hosting other games besides poker.
4 tablespoons games (roulette, craps, blackjack and baccarat) plus 1 poker table. Separately, 6 poker tables for tournaments.
I would want people to be able to buy in for $1000 or so or less. So maybe like $1 and $5 increments for craps and maybe $25 a hand for BJ. The roulette chips would be quarters or dollars. I have no idea how baccarat works but in that range.

But you bring up a good point about cash and tournaments. Are there good guidelines on non poker tournaments?

I feel like this is one of those obtuse management consulting interview questions. "How many golf balls fit inside a 777?" (The answer is ALOT)

So... let's break this down.

Taking inspiration from Teddy KGB's club, we can estimate there is enough space for 10 tables. In the opening scene, we can count 5 actual tables and we also see another table folded up and propped up against the wall. This suggests the space can accommodate a bigger crowd. I'm doubling the 5 table count for this estimate because this is Teddy KGB we're talking about.

So, if we give you the same footprint as Teddy KGB because you're now flush with Powerball money, we can safely assume you're going to need chips for 90 people at max poker occupancy. You mentioned you wanted to run craps, roulette, blackjack, etc. Those table games don't run more than 9 people per table so you're conservatively maxed at 9 per table anyway.

Since this is an underground casino, I am limiting the rebuys at 1.5x. My assumption is that since this is an underground scenario, patrons will be less likely to draw attention to themselves and engage in boastful behavior.

Therefore, my back of the napkin math gets us to 10 tables at 9 people per table with 1.5 rebuys per person.

I break down the actual chip count here: https://tinyurl.com/HOWMANYCHIPS
Got me!
