Just the other day my wife was annoyed that I left a rack of chips on her dresser while rearranging some things. She didn't know anything about them. I was very disappointed. I thought to myself, if she knew what kind of chips those are, she would treat them with a little more respect. Don't get me wrong, I tell her waaaaay more than she ever has wanted to know about chips and gambling. So it got me thinking, I've been in playing/working in poker for a long time, chipping for a few years and I wonder how much she has picked up about my hobbies over the years.

Maybe its just me, but I thought it would be kind of funny/cool to come up with some quick trivia questions to see how much has rubbed off on chippers and poker players significant others. questions like, what is the rake in a poker game. How many chips does a rack fit. and possibly tougher questions like what company makes the best clay poker chips in the world.

If anyone wants to join in on a little trivia session, feel free to comment and add to the list of questions. I would be happy to quiz my wife about my hobbies. we could even start a poll and see who's degeneracy has rubbed off the most in their household.

fun, entertaining, or stupid? I don't know. I'm just a little bored tonight.

and my apologies to any single chippers out there (not for being single, but for not being able to participate.) You could join in as well with a good friend who is not apart of the poker/chip world.

My wife knows where I keep my bankroll and isn't afraid to "borrow" from it.

My wife knows when I host poker, I never drive home late and risk running into a drunk driver.

She also knows that poker players sometimes eat us out of house and home, so she keeps assorted frozen goodies in reserve in case she needs to make something extra to eat at midnight.

Annette don't think aces and kings are better than jacks. Let's just say she doesn't play cash and she never goes deep in tournaments the rare times she plays.

My wife knows roughly how much money was spent on the stuff in the poker chip closet and she knows about the special provisions in my will regarding chips.

The poker players know not to smoke anywhere near the house, much less in it.

She knows poker chips are cheaper than boats. Same thing with trophy hunting. Always better to keep me safely at home playing cards.

Annette also knows poker night is a great place to test out new recipes. If the players don't eat it . . . . then it is a total dud.

I'd say, she knows just about enough -=- DrStrange

My family member said chip is ideal to have 8V edge spot that’s kind of right.
Also plastic suck and ceramic is cheap, hot stamps are ugly and cheap, 43mm baccarat chips are annoying and there’s no point of having 2 separate $100 chips at Bellagio, Fontainebleau chips are the junkiest chips in Vegas.

All I know is that my coworkers know more about poker, poker chips & casinos than they ever cared to know.

My wife doesn't play poker, nor does she really care about chips. That said, she supports my hobbies 100%, opens up our home for hosting poker 1-2x/month and tries to show interest when I get excited about whatever new chipping thing is the topic of the day. Really, I couldn't ask for anything more!

My wife was supportive by making all kinds of goodies for us to eat without me asking last Friday when I hosted.
When I asked her to join us because we only had 6 people including myself she got upset and told me that I know she doesn't like to play why would I ask her.
My buddy's wife was over that she's talked to more than I ever have and 3 of my guests asked if I'd try and get her to join us. Lastly it was mainly for a roulette tournament she's never even seen or tried.
I think she woulda had fun putting chips on numbers but she's not even willing to watch.
I gave up and apologized for asking.
We had a fun night without her but I got silent treatment for 2 days now since hosting.
Oh well. She knows I like chips and plan on hosting much more often.
Gonna be rough but oh well.
I know pretty much everything about her hobbies but when I talk to her about any of mine it's pretty obvious she's not listening and annoyed by me even talking about them.
I see my buddy's wife engage in all his hobbies from golf to woodworking and poker along with trips to Vegas.
My wife and I went there for our honeymoon 18 years ago and wanted to go back together until chipping became my hobby recently plus my group of poker friends keep asking us to go along with them. They go a few times a year and sounds like fun but obviously not with her along.
I'm on my own and jealous of guys with wives that admire and participate in their husband's hobbies.
Luckily my kids, family members, friends, coworkers are tho so that helps.

Can't have it all and it could always be much worse.

I know a little about a lot of things, not much I haven't tried or checked out over the years. Chips I have found to be one of the most expensive and addicting hobbies I have. It's not my favorite hobby but definitely in the top 5 at the moment.

Back on topic. Most of my players give me a hard time for having so many chips and don't know or ask about them much.
A few of the guys do tell me when I bring out something they like tho.
One guy thinks one of my sets is cool because higher denoms are larger than the lower denoms and another guy likes my mario set. A different guy is crazy good at math and says he'd love to work at a casino. He's good at paying out quick when we play roulette and only one of our group that understands more than just the basics in craps.

We played with 3 sets last Friday, one of them being my new simpsons set and nobody commented or said they liked them. I don't even think they looked at the chips that close.
Maybe some day I'll find my local chipping addiction buddy.

My wife knows, but does not know. She is not happy to be moving so many chips to Florida, too many sales, not enough demand to get rid of many before the move. But, she tolerates me.

Man, this hits close to home lol.

My wife doesn’t know exactly but is well aware that the chips are really expensive. She really likes the stuff that comes with PCF/poker: the great people we’ve gotten to know and some extra traveling but she doesn’t care for poker herself. She played some when we first met but that was back when everyone and their aunt was playing holdem (2004/2005).

My wife? Effectively 0, doesn't really care other than spend is on par or less than other hobbies or collections.. coming off a watch buying kick, so she's not too upset ha (and more importantly delaying me jumping into building a car I've been eyeing a kit for).

I do get feedback from her on designs from time to time to get general thoughts if I'm stuck between layouts, but that's about the extent of involvement.

Would be interesting to to quiz her though to see how much has rubbed off regardless. Similar to a few others I don't have any close friends that care all that much about my chips, but I don't care and send photos/talk about them regardless. Lol..

I view it as a hobby for me alone to really enjoy. Hopefully someday my kids or potential grandkids will either pick up the hobby or just see how to do your own thing even if no one else cares. My grandfather designed random things for fun (e.g. door stoppers, still have a box of a thousand or so somewhere), and I always respected his ability to do something so deeply/intently that no one else gave a shit about. Ha

Quiz questions:

• What is the difference between THC and RHC?

• What is the difference between SCV and LCV?

• What is the difference between hot dog roller and hot dog steamer?

My GF knows that Paulson are the good ones and can be recognized with the "hat & cane" mold.
I guess that's already something ahah.

My wife knows everything about chips and their costs, and she has actually helped me design my CPC custom sets. She particularly adores the Athenian Owls, V1 and V2.
She actually shed tears when I sold the V1 Tourney sub-set to dear @Ethan and wondered if "our birdies" would be in loving hands.

She has helped cleaning and oiling thousands of factory-new CPCs.

Poker-wise, she could not really survive on a table of competent players, but she kicks the shit out of me heads-up. :ROFLMAO:

I consider making her a permanent dedicated dealer, with the assistance of a shuffling machine.

As if all that were not enough, she is willing to pay for a 44mm CPC set now, dedicated to her, the Alpha Female Wolf (her surname in Greek means exactly that).

My wife understands the costs and knows what I spend, although prob chooses to ignore it.

She thinks collecting custom samples is very weird, as they don’t have sentimental value or any meaning to me (or any buyer other than originator).

She thinks the hobby as a whole is a little strange, and finds it to be a touch childish, pretentious, and in her terms “fake fancy”. She’s also primarily only met CA/bay area chippers.

She couldn’t answer a single question regarding chips themselves, but overall supports my involvement. On a quiz she would likely score 0 out of however many questions, yet also takes both kids out of school on a mini vacation by herself while I spent 5 figures on meetups. So, I guess winning?

My wife knows:
- I've been spending more time lately on a forum about... poker chips?
- I have a pool of money set aside for gambling, but she can ask at any time about my wins/losses/purchases/bankroll and I will always be 100% truthful. And ofc if we ever truly needed it, it would be accessible to us.
- (She mostly stopped doing the above a few months into dating me, when I was largely doing sports betting, and she realized my gambling habits were actually boring and math-y and not degen-y, especially so when I gave her a ring that was fully funded by Fanduel)
- The people I play poker with are mostly newer dads in our neighborhood, and she wants me to warm up to the idea of being one too one day (preferably sooner rather than later)
- "You spent how much on those chips?"
- "How could you possibly need *another* deck of cards? Can we at least take them to the brewery and play gin rummy?"
- When in doubt, just remember #2

My wife acts like she cares when I’m talking about chips, but she really doesn’t
that is a keeper.
My wife thought the Harrah's NO were tacky / ugly.
at least she is giving honest input!
All I know is that my coworkers know more about poker, poker chips & casinos than they ever cared to know.
same here. My new part time job is with AV guys and computer guys. I'm teaching them a lot about poker!

you got a keeper there!
thats probably the pro move.

you taught her well.
So, I guess winning?
absolutely
- "You spent how much on those chips?"
I have the benefit of being a vendor, so all I call my chips purchases an "investment". she probably sees right through that but still doesn't mind too much.
