My friends and I have tried to get a regular game going off and on for years now, but I think we’ve finally gotten it in gear.

We’ve all got crappy WSOP or WPT or ESPN plastic chips sets, and I just thought how much nicer it would be to have a nice set.

Knowing nothing, I did a bunch of research and bought some Monaco chips from discountpokerstore or whatever it’s called. While waiting for them to arrive, I did a little more research and found this site, learned about Paulsons and CPC’s and became filled with regret.

Now, I begin my quest for actually nice chips, without spending a month’s rent on them.

This seems like a great community from what I’ve been able to read so far!

Welcome! Used to deal for a game around Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx but knew Queens had players. Lol, did a very similar thing, I was so proud of my new shitty chips because they were better than my old shitty chips. Your budget will just constantly grow here, its stupid.

Yes…… I can see that…. Idk how many posts I’ve seen replying to noobs that just say “don’t buy anything yet, study this forum for 6 months first!!” ;)

Well hello there new poker friend! I live behind a bagel factory near Costco, next to where the ice cream trucks sleep at night. Where are you at?

Part 2 - this might be a crazy question, but is there anywhere around here that might have multiple types of poker chips in a physical place that I could go to? Like, irl meat-space ?

Are you a big Les Miserables fan or did you pick that number by chance??

Wait One Day More before you buy your next set, I did it On My Own and it was a mistake that led to a Confrontation. We'll help you be the Master of the House.

yo! i live by astoria park haha. as far as multiple type of poker chips, I mean I have multiple types lol. I don't think there's a meet space for it though necessarily.

I thought you were going to Mexico!
when the hell did i say that LOL.

lol - I went to school for theater but my wife listens to the Les mis soundtrack at least 3x a week, so I actually pulled that out randomly before I thought about it

Nice! Beautiful spot.

And copy that!

Get on the list to have the noob rack mailed to you.
I saw a couple posts about sets that could get mailed around but it seemed like the sets had disappeared a few years ago. I replied to one post, but it was old - would you be able to point me to the active post/thread/link whatever it’s called?

I have no need for sample chips, so I didn't keep up on it, but I was referring to the starter pack that @Forty4 previously coordinated.

Looks like that is no longer an option.

Sorry.

Roger that - yeah such a great idea and all the karma in the world to @Forty4

I’m a total noob - to chips and to PCF - but I was wondering if there was a list of specific poker 101 chips from specific vendors that would be a good tour of the tiers and materials, from bottom to top bicycle to Paulson ?

The library idea is amazing, but right now coming in cold, I would be happy to spend money if I knew a set would have a good spread, and then I could hone my research on the category and price point that makes sense for me. As is, the thought of buying samples is intimidating because the cost adds up quickly, and I have no real idea what these categories mean.

I feel like I’m car shopping, but each test drive costs money and I’m going to test a red ford pinto, a white ford pinto, a blue ford pinto, and a Ferrari because I’m too ignorant now to understand what I’m asking for.

Is there a list like that? And I’m kind of wondering if there is, would it make sense for someone to buy 1 barrel of each and make Noob Sample Packs™️ to sell to folks starting out?

I think I can cobble something together but I don’t have the current wave of China chips, I think. Can’t remember if I loaned all of them out to a friend or kept a few samples.

Oh wow!!!

That is amazing!! I would be happy to pay for them, right now I just imagine handing money to each chip company and they’re getting back in line with a fake nose and sunglasses until my wallet’s empty ;)

I have a half barrel to donate.

3 x No mold/Faux mold
4 x Cards mold
3 x LGK mold

I’m trying my best looking at chipguide.com or whatever the site is - is that pioneer club 5 an Arodie mold from the 50’s?

Or is that what you mean by faux mold? In the guide it looked like it was single color edge spots - idk if that is a thing that is very consistent or not
